Just had these pictures from Forestry Commission Scotland showing what's left of the boardwalk. Laggan Forest Trust Facebook

At the moment all the trails are closed until the trees can be made safe.

Boo!

Tara. It was pish anyway. The amount of trees down this winter has been ridiculous.

That'll save me having to decide if I'm mad enough to follow my 10 year old along it - again.

It was a hateful bloody thing anyway

+1

A proper brown shorts moment riding that. First (and only time) I'd been there, dry day with the rest of the trails riding well with ample grip. Ducked into the woods onto the boardwalk at a little bit quickly and immediately realised it was like ice. Can only have been instinct kept me upright.

Needless to say I skipped it on the second lap.

I loved it tbh but totally get why people hated it.

It was that shitty combo of easy and deadly. I don't mind risking life and limb for something really techy and spectacular but not for something that's just dull.

Bummer. I rode it on a tandem once. The stoker later confessed his eyes were closed. The trick on a normal bike was to carry enough speed so no pedal strokes were required. That made the entrance tricky.

Rode it once on a tandem, it was loads of fun! Til we slipped off and I punched my stoker on the way to the floor...

It would have been fine if it had just been chicken wired or covered in grip paint.

No. it wouldn't. http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/accident-at-afan-today-air-ambulance/page/2#post-148235

...or covered in grip paint.

That's better. 🙂

Looks like the boardwalk is now greatly improved! Tried riding it once, cost me a bruised hip & broken saddle.

Shame...

Maybe there will be some new trails, though. Plenty of timber for some north-shore too.

Loved riding the black trail and would happily ride that all day than the boardwalk.

Remember being up there a while ago, rode it a couple of times no problem. Went back a couple of days later and touched the brakes on the way in and found myself and bike wrapped around a tree.

Bloody awful stuff.

Fkn hated that boardwalk. Good riddance

It really was like ice. Had a big spill on it and landed on the forest floor below, banged my shin off the corner of the boardwalk on the way down.

The bruises were epic

I assumed it was just me who was stupid enough to crash on that boardwalk 😀
