I know that for many people Magura hydraulic rims brakes were a step that was bypassed but has anyone here experience, especially with regard to their effectiveness compared with V's. Just thinking of modifying a hybrid.

Well worth it I think, a bit of a pain to fit but work great.

I ran Magura Racelines from about 1998 until about a year ago-the same pair. They are easy to set up, easy to service and have bags of power. I used to look at my GT Zaskar frame flex when I pulled them on. I would go as far as saying they are as good as discs (in the dry), without the heat build up.

Had frame braces, firstly the carbon ones then the Evolution Adaptors Evo II, still had some flex!!
Dependant on what you get, I have a carrier bag with my old set and spares in if you want anything let me know.

Got a set on my comuter due to lack of disc mounts.
Huge step up over V's. Been reliable so far, and they were S/H a year ago from Fleabay. Eat pads though. Also, best if you have nice wide rims. And don't even think of a set without the boosters.

used to ride a lot of trials so had to have the obligitory racelines - and in other - nicer colours later on - always lusted after some johhny t's in rd.

not as powerful as v brakes but the feeling makes them worth it.

imagine v brake with no cable stretch and your almost there.

i wouldn't bother upgrading from a v on a hybrid really.

I just got a set of HS11s for twenty quid from eBay for my Dawes singlespeed. They seem to be a doddle to fit and set up, the removal mechanism means that you're not dogged by tyre clearance problems like you are with Vs, and they seem much more effective - almost as good as discs. The lever is pretty much the same as my Louises. I think the pad longevity depends a bit on what compound you get as I've heard conflicting things.
