3 hours so far trying to get this thing to fit. Brand new Schwalbe Rock Razor.
I’ve put the tyre on and seated it without insert, then tried with the insert, first away from the valve then starting at the valve. Followed the instructions to the letter, doing the roll/grab thing on the tyre and all that happens is the bit not bedded just rolls off the rim.
It’s miles off being anywhere near being able to tyre lever the last bit on.
The garage has been turning blue with cursing. Minded to just sack it and see if I can return it, it shouldn’t be this hard to fit something.
Any hints or tips, I’m quickly losing patience…..
always away from the valve.. the valve is the last part of the bead you want to install.
My last rimpact with contis on a 481 was tool free.
gotta stuff that rimpact up into the casing while keeping the bead in the trough. that way the inserts not getting the way
Use a tyre lever to push the bead into the rim below the insert to free up enough slack for the last bit.
Pretty easy once you have the technique.
Try stretching the insert a bit, put your foot on it on the ground and work around it pulling up, just be careful you don't pull it in half as they're usually glued together I think.
You don't want the beads seated on the tyre, you want them as far as they'll go, into the well of the rim to allow space for the tyre to go on. Which means you need to get the insert deep into the tyre and then push the beads into the centre.
Plus, a lot of sweating and knackered hands afterwards!

This. And I’ve found DT rims pretty trouble free for inserts. Spank rims with their ‘bead bite’ on the other hand 🥵 getting tyres on was fine but getting them off again could be a bit of a wrestling match
get the erotic looking tyre lever from cushcore. They also make little clamps that stop the tyre bead from unseating itself
Soapy water helps to lube the tyre to help it slip into the rim well.
Really struggled with my first one. Followed the cushcore video on you tube instead of the Rimpact method and it was much easier. Cushcore tyre lever for the second set of wheels I did and it was as good as it’s hyped to be.
As others have said, forget any notion of lifting the tyre bead over the rim. You need to punch downwards with the tyre lever to get the bead in the tyre well. It’s very difficult to describe.
Just fitted one, no levers needed, you just need the beads in the centre well. Seating one side is making it harder for you.
As above. Push the beAd right under the rim pact. And then do it again and then it’s easy.
Well that was easy it turns out, top tip from here to use tyre levers to push bead into the rim well, got it on with no tools, like ruddy night and day effort wise.
Thanks to all those who came up with that master stroke!

Let us know how you get the tyre off in the future 😁
Hahahahhah, it did cross my mind that if the tyre does need to come off (in the wild, so to speak), it’s going to be a struggle.
Tyre off is the reverse. Push the bead under the insert from both sides and it's easy.

Glad it helped.
Just to make you feel better I learned how to do this kind of stuff fitting mouse inserts with MX tyres when all of this stuff was first used in Enduros back in the 80s.
After that MTB tyre are are like kids play.
i have the same issue with nukeproof wheels.
the honest answer was hot soapy water... and a lot of swearing
There's a video of one of their sponsored riders installing one using a bin to balance the wheel on.
You place the wheel flat on top of the bin (with the lid off of course!) and you can use your body weight to seat the beads.
Was also easier to seat the rimpact on the rim using this method as you can use your knee to keep the seated section in place.
.... wait till you have to get it off!
As you've found there is a trick to getting them on. It seems brute force is what you need to get them off.
For installation the best tip (from here) is to leave the tyre on a radiator, went on smoothly.
I just came to echo what has been mentioned about the Cushcore tyre lever. If you're struggling to fit the tyre just imagine what taking the thing off will be like 🙂
I once nearly gave up and was really close to cutting a minion off the rim once but thought I'd take a punt on the cushcore lever as tyres are so expensive - it's an absolute god send!
I’ve managed on xm481 and xm421 with both a 2.6” Forekaster / 2.6” slaughter and 2.6” Rekon. Failed to get a 2.4” dissector seated with a Rimpact though and gave up.
So far I’ve found getting the Rimpact insert as far up into the tyre as possible and then pushing the tyre bead into the rim has worked best for me.
I have spent a lot of time swearing at it in the garage and with very tired hands. Planning to pickup one of those cushcore tyre levers at some point.
