have had a couple of punctures in the last week. Just noticed the rim tape has folded over and it is a sharp edge on a spoke hole that is causing the punctures. I thought I was running the tyre pressure to low.
Anyway i I haven’t got any rim tape but have got electrical and gorilla tape. I figure that a couple of layers of electrical tape and then the gorilla tape should be just a good. Any issues with this or do I need to get proper rim tape?
I always just used a couple of wraps of electrical tape with tubes.
Yes it will do the job just fine - I used to only use gorilla tape, but it is messy to clean up afterwards so I have now gone back to proper rim tape...
If you clean your rims and then apply it tight and firm then one layer of Gorilla tape should be enough.
All my wheels are done with a single layer of gorilla tape and it's never let me down
All sorted now hopefully. They are asymmetric wheels so the spike holes are off centre which seems to have made the rim tape more prone to rolling off and exposing the spoke holes which have then punctures the tube.
