I'm looking at some new rims and my LBS has recommended DT Swiss EX 511. The specs say that the maximum system weight is 130KG which doesn't seem like a lot. My bike is 23KG (ebike) and I am 90 which doesn't seem to leave much "spare". I'm not going to be jumping it but still, I would have though it would be easy to add another 15KG in loading.

Will this matter, does the system weight mean just the weight of the bike and rider and the additional weight/load created by riding is allowed for, or should I be looking at something else..

The DT Swiss Hybrid HX 531 for example has a max system weight of 150KG but is more expensive.

DT swiss rate the EX series as being in ASTM category 4, so would be quite happy with 130kg of rider and kit jumping up to 1.2m in the air with them. If you’re just bumbling along I doubt you’d have anything to worry about with these rims.

I’m probably something like 115kg these days and don’t have any trouble getting kitted up and riding on my full sus rig (shall we say an extra 20kg?) which only has XM 481 rims on it. Not sure I’ve quite made it to four foot drops on it yet but probably not too far off on occasion.

That's a useful document - Thanks @bigginge

Looks like the 511s will be OK then. 🙂
