Realised last night I need it on the rear of my bike! Any point in looking beyond cushcore or rimpact
I've been using Rimpact for a couple of years and I'm happy with them. They've saved me a small fortune in slashed tyres and cracked rims. I haven't had a failure since running inserts.
I use a pair though, in both bikes. The last tyre I destroyed was on the front. A pair of inserts weighs less than a decent 29er innertube so the weight isn't an issue but the protection is worth it.
Cheers dude
The peak seems a lot rockier at the minute lol
I'm a serial rim dinger and have always used tubes. As the Levo came with carbon rims, I opted to go tubeless and have cushcore front and back.
The tyres aren't particularly tough (Spesh Butcher/Eliminator Grid Trail 2.6), but I'm enjoying the damped feel and touch wood, no rim damage so far running 20psi r and 18psi f.
What tyre casing are you using and what's the cost of going up one casing duty in pounds and lbs?
I’ve taken mine out after a few years and gone to tougher tyre casings. I prefer it without them. The damped feel was kind of nice on rocky stuff but I found this also meant they were kind of tiring as there wasn’t the tyre volume available for cushioning.
The rocks round here are quite rounded though, so tyre slashes aren’t generally an issue.
Mine are up in the garage rafters, so you want a cheap deal on them, pm me.

For Peak bashing on an Airdrop, I'm Exo+ up front, double down rear, no inserts
The problem with just riding a heavier tyre is that most manufacturers won't make a fast rolling trail tyre in a durable casing. Their fastest treads come with the flimsiest sidewalls.
On my Druid I'm running Maxxis 2.4 trail tyres that roll very quickly but aren't available in Exo+ or DD. So I've got tyres which suit the bike and the Rimpacts reduce the chance of destroying them.
I've tried using heavier casing enduro tyres and it just kills the vibe of the bike and is much harder to pedal around on.
I've got heavier tyres and Rimpact on my uplift/bikepark bike and I've got a few minor dents in the rims. I know from past experience they would have been day-ending impacts without the physical protection of the insert.
Edit: if anyone has a Rimpact Pro in 27.5 that they won't want anymore I'll take it. I've got a shortened 29er held together with zip ties on the back of the mullet. Mega bodge but it's worked so far.
Cushcore or Rimpact - I've got both. Early days but can't say I notice a difference between them.
I've never been a rim wrecker but a new-to-me bike came with carbon rims and Cushcore both ends. I've removed the front one but kept the rear as the tyre's fast-rolling but flimsier sidewall than I prefer (the point @sharkattack's making above). Taken similar approach on my bigger bike when Rimpact were selling the V1s very cheap. At approx 100g they don't add much if you're looking for a faster-rolling tread.

Just glue it together with Gorilla contact adhesive.
I've had to shorten a couple that had gone baggy and were rattling in the tyre.

Me too apart from on my hardtail which has XC tyres on.
They might help with rim dings but don't stop the top of the tyre from getting holes in them.
