What do all the letters/numbers combinations mean when looking at Mavic (for example) rims? 😕
I know i want Hope Pro II hubs but i don't even know where to start with rims!
not sure of it but i think the last two numbers are rim width in mm eg, 819 is a 19mm wide rim or 729 is a 29mm rim oh and xc is cross country, am is all mountain
What's XM mean then? 😕
XC rims are for cross country use.
XM are for 'mountain' use i.e. still light but significantly stronger.
EX are for 'Extreme' use, downhill, Freeride, Paul etc. 😉 Actually I'm pretty heavy on wheels too.The first digit after the letter is supposed to be the 'series' number, with higher numbers having better material and better quality construction, prices don't always reflect this e.g. a ceramic 7 series could cost more than an 8.
The next two numbers give the inner width of the rim. Wider widths give a better shape to larger tyres but will weigh a bit more.

Personally, as below, I prefer ZTR in the name.
ZTR are good letters to have...
And they have a website that explains what all the rims are for. As do Mavic - Click
