Using my 26" inbred for bikepacking and want to replace existing fork for rigid steel fork.

read some old threads which recommended Sala Cromotos but nowhere seems to have these in 26".

Any other decent options out there for around £100 ? like the look of the Surly Troll ones.

I have many, many miles on a Surly Instigator fork (most of them on an Invred); brutally stiff but very direct in its steering...suspension corrected (100mm) and you can remove the V-bosses. Great fork, and a bit cheaper than the £100 you mention.

read some old threads which recommended Sala Cromotos but nowhere seems to have these in 26".

They are good forks (ver good), but finding them in 26 in flavour (425 or 445mm A2C) seems to be impossible lately. Inbreds will handle the 29er version (465mm) and it won't be too awful....you mentioned bikepacking, are you looking for a fork with lots of eyelets/mounts for fork mounted cages or just a normal fork?

Other than that you could scour eBay for disc mounted Kona P2's, or occasionally a fork from a Genesis (io etc.) pops up which are decent enough, the other option is Surly (1x1 or Instigator should work?), also getting harder to find in 26in lengths but a lot easier than the Salsa at the moment!

FWIW, these are a very good Cromoto alternative but again only 29er length

If you're not hell-bent on steel then there are the Exotic forks in Alu and Carbon, very well liked by many and very good value too.

fork doesn't need to have lots of eyelets etc -standard fork is fine, not keen on idea of carbon forks on a loaded bike with a big lump like me on it and am not a fan of aluminium forks

I've been meaning to sell my barely used (less than 100 miles) Surly Troll fork, would that be of interest?

My 26" Inbred was about as perfect a 26" bike I've ever ridden with a 29er Singular Swift fork & 26" wheel. I reckon it would make a perfect bike packing bike. It lifted the front such as to take the weight off the hands a little. The same bike with a 26" rigid fork suffered the same as most in that they seem to think anyone after a rigid fork wants an arse up - head down posture with mega quick steering, even with a 440mm rigid. The 29er fork has the front sitting at about the height of a 120mm suspension with a little bit of sag.
And non oversize low-rise carbon bars & thick grips takes the edge off trail chatter.

Surly 1x1 fork - 453 A-C. Have one on my 18" inbred. Works V well. Love the geometry. Considering selling but also may use for a 650b build.

I use surly ogre forks on my 29er inbred, I like them. They're stiff, but feel quite comfortable . Loads of tyre and mudguard clearance, Loads of options for mounting bits and pieces for full blown touring or a bit of bike packing. Trolls are the 26" version I believe.

I've got a 445mm Singular fork which is pretty cushty..

You'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands though, possibly worth giving them a shout?

In true single-track style , ignoring the OP, would an carbon-cycles ALU or carbon fork not work?

I believe the Madison own brand M-Part steel fork is exactly the same one as the Genesis IO fork, there is one on ebay right now for a reasonable price.

I've got some lightly-used Identiti Rebate 1420 rigid forks for sale. They're pretty bloody rigid though!

I got some salsa cromotos from Bike24 a couple of years ago. Just had a quick look and it doesn't look like they stock them anymore

Mine went on an inbred which has since been stripped and all that remains is the frame and the fork which I am still undecided what to do with either. You may see these forks on ebay or classified soon!
