possible - entirely.

Don't expect it to last long if you ride it off road a lot.

Second hand off eBay (or the STW classifieds!)? £300 should get you something quite reasonable, I'd expect...

New I assume? Off the peg or built up from bits? Single speed or geared?

I think Ridgeback do a rigid for around £350.Islabikes do a rigid adult sized 29er for £400.There's a test in this month's WMB.

You could pick up a rigid apollo for less than £300 I reckon!

My rigid had about £300 of parts in it, and worked very well- Carrera frame, used 1x9 drivetrain, exotic forks, old Mavic wheels, cheapo brakes. Quite a few of the parts are now on my Soda.

There's a bit of a lack of new options though, seems suspension sells bikes. The old Carrera Subway was surprisingly good but the newer one seems to have lost it a bit.

If you don't mind singlespeed and v-brakes, this is pretty close to MTB:

Also comes in disc for an extra £50, or with gears for an extra £100.

There are even 29ers, and a few of last years at reduced prices, if you're the right size. Geared for £315, and singlespeed for £244:

I'd be building something from the classifieds for that budget. Should be able to do a perfectly good rigid SS for 300 smackers

i think youd get more for your money if you bought a second hand full build rather than trying to build from parts. youll be amazed how it all adds up, try it on a spreadsheet first
