Hi All

Im currently in the process of building up an old 26” Dawes tamarak frame mtb. (Alloy frame). Originally it had rst suspension forks on but they seized up years ago and got removed and not seen ever since.

I’m looking to fit a rigid fork to it now but I can’t find any info on a-c for the old forks. I’ve had a google and can’t seem to find much. Also I’m looking for a derailleur hanger for it.

any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

I'm guessing with it being a Dawes, the forks weren't huge travel so something with a short'ish ~420mm AC would be ok. In terms of forks themselves, my favourites whenever I've built a rigid HT have been Salsa Cromotos but they're rare now in 26" I think. Otherwise, 420mm Pace RC31s come up for sale pretty often which are also great but not sure if either are a bit posh/expensive for an old Dawes frame?! As for hangers, try BETD - they have a huge range: Road Bike Derailleur Hangers | Gear Hangers | BETD

What are you going to use it for? Do you need it to be an absolutely spot on like-for-like replacement?

Can't you measure the axle to crown on the existing forks?

What size headset is it?

I've got some Identiti 445mm axle to crown 1 1/8 QR 26" rigid forks sitting in the garage that I need to sell. Bought new, fitted to bike but have never been ridden. Let me know if any use.

those are apparently the forks the bike came with (if you want to go original)

otherwise just get something second hand with roughly 460mm a2c. When I needed to do similar for a kids bike I got a fork from a careera subway for a tenner.

Bruce - as per my post I no longer have the forks other wise would measure them.

I mean spot on probably not but it would be nice to  Its just going to be used for light stuff and getting to work

yeah if I remember correctly they had a small amount of travel was probably hardly worth been called suspension ?

headset in the bike now 1 1/8th

Sorry should have read your post better. I have some project two forks which were fitted to a Marin Pine mountain.

I will measure the steerer and the ac tomorrow. If they are suitable you are welcome to them for free, if they are suitable.

Will measure and photograph tomorrow if you are interested.

Pre suspension rigid forks are 395mm. Early sus. corrected frames need 425mm.
When fork travel went to 100mm rigid forks went to 445.

Ctk:

so if my old forks were 80mm I’d need 425 ?

The project two forks are about 210mm top of dropout to top of crown race seat. Or About 215mm centre to top of crown race seat.

There is about 195 mm of steerer.
