With pics of your PIMP rigid bikes! Having fitted a rigid fork to my hardtail for Mountain Mayhem (due to the mud), the first time I've used one on a mountain bike since 1995, I must say I'm rather enjoying it. Though the 2.4" Rubber Queen (effectively same dia as a 650b tyre, seems I've created a rigid 67.5er!) at low pressures does help, but I'm finding it surprisingly more usable than I thought, even on rough terrain, and have no immediate desire to put the Reba back on the bike... For now anyway.

very light, very quick, back on boingy forks at the moment as everything else is rigid and it's nice to have a mix

Just got a set of rdo 15mm niners. You wouldn't believe how stiff n light they truly astound me and that,s only holding them 😛

Not blinged particularly (the niner bars are nice), but I did manage under 20lbs build, it was too scarey tho, was getting pinged off everything.

mboy, get a 29er in the front with a big tyre on it! 69ers are ace. I have a spare front 29er wheel kicking about and some big rubber you can borrow to try if you fancy it

tazzy, cheers for the offer, I'd like to try it actually. Though I'm worried it might chopper the front out a touch, unless I compensated with a shorter a/c fork. Where am yow, I forget?

Now got Conti 2.4 up front (On One special) and a Brooks B17 Titanium.
Much comfort.

I haven't any pictures, but I recently put the X-Lite carbon 15mm Maxle 29er forks on my TransAM. They're amazing and sort the geometry out perfectly.

Only problem with them is that they're so light the rest of the bike now feels heavy and One One are doing the Whippet at £250 and it's 3.5lbs lighter than the TransAM, you can see where this is heading......

I've (only) ridden on suspension twice in the last 30 months, and didn't really get on with it ...

[Not that you can tell from this shot, but] My Swift has Salsa Enabler's (so 135mm OLN at front and rear), and it's fantastic, so much so, that any other suitable builds/rebuilds upstream of here are also going to have 135mm F & R ...

If you were getting carbon forks for a 29'er, what would you get?

Also will it be fine with a crest rim?

the niner carbons are ace and don't have a weight limit now. On a budget?, then the exotics are good. On-one carbons are ok but a wee bit harsh compared to some. All will be fine with a crest rim, if you're worried, put a slightly bigger, burlier tyre on the front and drop the pressure a bit.

Mr Clink, on the Jones (plural)
Front normal on a P35 rim I've run:
2.35 nics
2.4 ralphs
wtd dissent 2.55 at 8 psi tubeless

Front Fat:
Vee rubber devistater 4" (really good in rock, wee bit heavy)
surly larry ('kin shite in anything approaching mud)
surly nates (best tyre ever!)
Sulry nate ultralight folding (even better as it's lighter)

Rears on both:
2.4 Ralps
2.35 nics
2.25 rocket rons.
Ardents

Best set up for me for humping over rocks in the peak, but still hooning around woods seems to be light nate on the front at 7.5 PSI on a 50mm rim with a 2.4 ralph or nic on the back. Would use a hans on teh rear, but man they're heavy!

For winter will have a dissent on a flow at the back a Looooow pressure tubeless for a sort of 3/4 fat as they are massive 29er rubber on a wide rim.

Hey tazzy, how do you get on with the DH?
Ss dropouts not available for it but a doofer.
Was looking at an air 9 c with £500 off in my size/colour but chose the DH due to a) looks b) geo c) price point d) always wanted a planet x
Will be running 1x9 rigid 15mm niner to begin with then SS in future.
Looks like your diddy DH got the pimp treatment like mine will.
If snoop dog had one, it would be just like mine will be! 😛

the dirty harry belongs to a mate who is little weight weenie race whippet, comes in about 17lb for the complete bike, but he's used a WI eccentric hub for the SS chain tension which isn't the lightest. He loves it and goes like a (very fast thing) when racing on it.

My rigid Swift at SITS last week. Those without rigid forks were wishing they had one, although the course didn't really require any suspension even when it was dry.

Handjob is now rigid (Exotic carbon forks) but no pics before the wheels were nicked for the Stiffee and I haven't built their replacements yet.

Must be a bit kinky as I was using a 2.0 Spesh Fast Track up front. A reel joy to ride.

where can I get a set of forks that won't screw up the geo on my 456? 29er forks?

Depends what you mean by 'screw up'. I would have thought a fork with an a-c of 465mm would suit a 456. Exotic, Salsa, On-One, Kona to name a few all do forks of this size.

Some decidedly non-pimpy bikes, I'll try to redress the balance...
