My mates and I are talking about a trip to the Alps this summer.
I have a friend with an apartment in Tignes that I can rent for mates rates. My question is, has anyone ridden Tignes before and is it any good?
How did you get there?
Are there any local guide companies that you would recommend?
Just trying to pull together some information and costs...
Thanks
Stevo at the White Room might be worth a chat to.
I've ridden Tignes but only guided. Some amazing stuff in the opposite valley - proper back country stuff.
Thanks Chunky
What is the White Room?
Heresy! 🙂 They are a superb Mtb chalet / guiding company based in that area . They also do skiing and boarding in the winter.
They are actually just above Bourg St.Maurice but they will be able to advise on Tignes.

That trail up there traverses along that right hand side of the valley pretty much to Bourg if you know where your going. It also ends opposite a pub!!!
Wow, that picture looks amazing!
Thanks guys
Tignes is alright, we spent a really nice day there just blasting the easier trails on a rest day and had a good time. It's just that it's quite close to some of the best riding I've ever done so it gets a bit eclipsed. (though it's a fairly long drive to La Thuile and Pila I think, it'd still be a good base)
OP there was another thread on this recently. Scottfitz from QECP was there last year, he posted up some positive things.
You can ride Tignes / Val d'Isere / Les Arcs/ St Foy / La Rossiere using Tignes as a base, all either on your door step or 20-30 mins drive in the car.
My brother lives in Val D'Isere, the linked resort next-door, and I've been out riding there a couple of times now. I like Tignes/Val, but then I've not ridden anywhere else in the Alps so I don't know how it compares to other more established resorts. There was quite a lot of fun newer stuff put in last year, but there's also some knackered old bits that are probably best avoided - if you inadvertently just rode down the crap stuff on a day trip you'd likely hate the place so some insider knowledge is useful. The lifts are free (or at least they have been for the past three years or more), which is pretty cool ,and it's always been quiet when I've been riding.
Wonderboisses (that pic up there I think) is ace, best thing I rode all last year by a mile.
Day trip wise pila is the one 😉
