A friend's brother is riding the great divide mountain bike route at the moment and he's producing videos as he goes.
Its a great watch if you are dreaming of a big adventure, particularly as he's a normal older bloke who has put in a massive effort to lose weight and get fit enough to make his dream come true.
He's also raising money for cancer research too

Will have a watch later, would love to try it but you know, bears!!!
Just watched it. Really nice video. I have subscribed to Robin's channel and looking forward to the next instalment.
Nice, riding the Divide route is something on my bucket list but likely something I'll never get fit or organised enough to do, maybe this will inspire me...
What a lovely watch that was! Nicely paced, nice mix of content. Great stuff. Really inspiring!
I have a couple of friends riding it at the moment too, they're about a month in (planning to take ~2 months total) and seem to be having mostly a good time! Of course the occasional very tough/rubbish day but that's all part of the experience. They've been really blown away by how welcoming and helpful everyone is along the way, both other riders sharing camp supplies/food and locals.
Good video, well made & comes across as a nice chap. As a person mildly obsessed with the divide, these will be an interesting watch to see how he gets on....best of luck to him!
Great timing too as I just finished Joshs video, also a very good watch A Tour Divide Ultra Cycling Film - Life in the Mid Pack
Thanks for the link. Doing that at 62 and losing 37kg beforehand shows it’s all about mental strength and commitment- good luck to him!
That looks an impressive undertaking - there is hope for us over 60s......inspiration.
There is also this guy Angus Young doing the Eastern Divide at the moment, he's a bit younger and travelling a bit lighter...

Thanks, will watch that later. I was out there 12 years ago now and I still think about the places and experiences often.
Episode two released yesterday - Polebridge to Llama Ranch 🙂
He's seems to be making good, steady progress and is just about to arrive in Pinedale. Crossing the great basin in a day or two.
Been following his journey. An inspiration.
Missed this earlier, now on my watch list
Been following along & enjoying his videos (Now 4 episodes available)...impressed with how well made they are
He was doing well but his tracking is showing as stopped for last few days; hope all is ok?
Yes. Looks like no movement for the last week. I hope Robin is ok and just taking a well-deserved rest.
hope all is ok?
Thanks for asking.
He had an off just outside el norte. Not badly hurt, but not in a position to continue. He'll be heading home soon, if he hasn't already.
As you can imagine he's gutted, especially as he'd done over 2000 miles, but I suspect he might be back in the future to deal with unfinished business.
Although he has seen all the "pretty" bits already
It's been inspirational to watch his progress and there's are a few more episodes to come, which I'm really looking forward too.
Episode 3: Llama to Lima
Episode 4: Lima to colter bay.

Oh no, Im sorry to hear this. Hope he heals up quick.
Thoroughly enjoyed following along and watching his vids so Im hoping at some point they'll be "Season 2"
Great videos, I’ll carry on watching even though I know the trip gets cut short.
Been a great watch. Gutted for him, but I am sure he'll come back. Inspirational.
The quality of editing is amazing. What tech and software do you need to do that whilst out on the road. I wouldn't have a clue or the mental energy to do that after a day's riding.
What a shame. Love these videos. Really inspiring and really nicely done. Will keep watching and hope he manages to pick it up again next year!
Not that it'll be a great consolation right now but my friends have just returned and said the last few hundred miles through New Mexico were by far the least scenic and interesting/enjoyable, and if they were to do it again they'd just start at the beginning and ride for a number of weeks or to a point that worked for transport connections to stop.

Agreed. I found it a bit of a task writing a few paragraphs and posting a few pics on an everyday basis on long tours.
Great having a look back years later but no way would I be filming/editing video on tour.

He's got a helper back home doing the editing, someone who clearly knows their way around and editing suite, as the quality of edit is better than some TV programmes I've watched!
I'm dumbfounded by the image quality from the latest DJI drones and action cameras too.
Speaking of which episode 5 dropped yesterday...
There are so many racing the divide blogs/videos, this is one of the attainable ones. Normal bloke doing it at his pace and having a blast. Had me looking up flight costs the other day. Interesting that he gets fitter as it goes on and in this one starts doing longer and longer rides. I really enjoyed these. Hope whatever happened he is OK.
Saw the first 2 vids last weekend, and just watched the last 3. Lovely stuff!
@slackboy How is Robin doing? I hope he has recovered from his fall and is on the mend.
Just watched episode 7 and guessing episode 8 will be the final one. I have loved watching them and will miss Robin's updates.
I've only just caught up with Ep5, so no spoilers please.
Loving this, as said above, makes it seem attainable and an affable man, giving me hope for my near future.
I'm not a camping type, but it's made me wonder if this could be doable for the likes of me. Though from what I've seen from other videos, I'm not sure how far down I'd want to go. New Mexico doesn't look like my type of scenery

there do seem to be quite a few b&b options en route. No spoilers but the accommodation at Hartsel in episode 7 looks particularly swish.
They're really watchable and he's done a great job putting them together. Lovely relaxed style and wonderful to hear a bit more about some of the places en route, which the racing coverage (justifiably) often misses out on.
Just watched Episode 8.
Best wishes to Robin, and thanks for some great viewing. Elliot's editing is excellent as well.
I really feel for Robin. It's often the smallest tumbles that cause the most damage (I fell at about 10mph at FoD a few years ago and broke several bones in my hand and cracked a couple of ribs). I hope he has recovered and is in fine form now.
Wow! What an innocuous place to crash out! On the other hand not far from a phone signal and looks like a great small town that he ended up in.
Spoiler alert!
OK, I've finished the episode, as you were
Not watched it yet either, although obviously I know how it ends.
My friend reports that Robin is pretty upbeat despite the ending - and after all he has had an adventure of a lifetime and spread a bit of good cheer around the internet in the process 🙂
Inspirational stuff.
Inspirational stuff.
Very much so. Made me really wonder which of my wild dreams can be made reality
