Looking to get some new t-shirts, I've currently got a couple of Aldi ones which I'd replace like for like but they're not selling any at the moment.

Any recommendations? I did a search but the only thing I found were a couple of years old.

Cheers,

you want ones that chain oil doesn't stick to.

Try somewhere like mountain warehouse, for half-decent "technical" t-shirts for not many £....

Depends how much you want to spend? I use the Fox tech ones for general riding in the summer for short sleeves & have a few Mons Royale long sleeve for something when it's a bit cooler.

The Mons stuff is bloody expensive however. Even at trade.

Morvelo/Overland do some lovely tech tees but they're not cheap.

Merino.

Some hate it - but I've ridden in mine every day for the last week and it still doesn't smell 🙂

I always say this but the sports section of TK Maxx. Loads of plain t-shirts in stretchy fabrics from New Balance, Adidas etc. I've ended up with a bunch of them.

I don't even look for mtb stuff anymore cos I don't want to look like I'm in the Avangers.

I use the Fox Tech tees almost all year round. On their own in the summer / with a long sleeved base layer when there’s a nip in the air and layered over base layer / under wind proof coat when it’s colder.

I’m pretty sure every one I’ve got has been £20 or less. Look for sales - no need to pay full price

Decathlon, their big standard running or hiking tops are both perfectly fine and dirt cheap. They do some MTB styled one as well for not much more.

I've got a few decathlon merino tops which are excellent....my old Aldi ones are getting a bit miffy.

I splashed out on a lovely Fox top last year and trashed it on my first ride. That's why my tops tend to be ones I won't be too upset when I shred them!!

You prefer the 'flat roofed pub' look? Cool. 🤓

Decathlon +1

Mountain Warehouse tech tees here too, mainly because I was too chunky for nice bike tees. Now I’m not, I’ll be looking to get some cycling specific tops, assuming I can find some that aren’t too speedy.

I used to ride in t-shirts, even tech t-shirts - but since i've switched to jerseys my life just became...better.

It fits, it wicks, it doesn't flap in the wind, you go quicker. Oh what's that? You want to carry a bum bag? Why bother - I have an integrated bum bag that moves around less - my 3 pockets. Great contributor to going 'packless' on a mtb ride, with a few other bits strapped to the bike.

My ride tops are a decent fit, so don't flap in the wind, and I don't want things strapped to my nice paint job.

My good old fanny pack is always ready to clip on and go, less ****ing about than stuffing pockets and strapping stuff. 👌🏻

But you have to wear a pack. And you will need to faff with the pack - putting in a little food, or maybe a windbreaker for a cooler day. That takes no less or more time than putting a few bits in your rear pockets - but you can get the stuff out whilst you're riding and without stopping - so even less faff!

As to the strap - the stuff stays there all the time except when cleaning - and your frame is wrapped, isn't it?

Finally, your ride tops do flap about - in comparison to a proper jersey. You're losing precious watts, and you can't hide from it.

Give in - lycra is coming back endurobro, and there's nowt you can do about it. It's the gravel influence.

Just a riding jersey for me too....although recently I have ridden a couple of times in a t shirt, but it was errrr just a t shirt 😀

90% of my rides, I take nothing with me, so faffing is really at a minimum my skinsuited friend.

Anyhoo, back to T shirts, I really like a well fitted M&S coolmax t shirts for playing in the woods, and you don't look like a paedo with rear pockets full of werthers originals. 🙃

I used to do this, but noticed the sports section at my local just had branded rubbish from Fila and Elesse so stopped going.

I recently picked up a few Troy Lee tech tees, they are cotton and stretchy, if you search for them they can be had for £15 from Leisure Lakes or Merlin, few rides in them and they feel good.
