Been looking at pants for the winter riding given the extra slop and now freezing temps (even in Devon!) liked the Troy Lee ones but out of stock everywhere. So any recommends for something comfy with a bit of stretch and not breaking the bank?

And as an add on - anyone bought any DirtyRides (DRa) stuff? Is it any good? Their custom pants could fit the bill, plus UK based.

Norrona Fjora are fantastic. A bit spendy, but keep an eye on eBay - they often come up.

Never heard of Norrona before but they do have some good looking but expensive gear.

7Mesh Thunderpant if you can find them. Yes, they are mega money, but my god are they good! Properly, properly waterproof, the fit is good and they will last forever going on my other kit from them. A pricey but very worthwhile investment, completely transformed winter riding for me!

I ordered some Royal racing storm pants, I'm a 32/34" waist, ordered a medium, too small, sent them back, ordered a large, too small, got a refund then as XL would've been ridiculously long in the leg.

I then went on the DirtyRidesApparel site, followed their guide to sizing for their custom pants, & hey presto, arrived & what a great fit they are, impressed with the quality of them too, strongly recommend, customer service was excellent  too, fast responses to any emails sent, hope this helps Crashrash.

I just got some Keela Roadrunners after a tip on here; I’ve only had one ride in them so far but they seem superb. Sizing spot on and I’m expecting them to be hard wearing.

Just bought a more... eeerrr stealthy black pair of these, tested them out in the snow today, very happy with them but a lot more money than the jazzy coloured pair

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, I think the biggest issue is finding something the right size and in stock! Though DRa can supply of course.

I'm impressed with the Madison Zenith ones I got last year, did a review here:

My Endura MTRs have been excellent. I've hardly ridden in anything else this winter. It's so nice so having a wet arse 15 minutes into a 4 hour ride!

I got some Madison Zenith last week, which excepting the fact I needed to add a couple of belt loops seemed brilliant. Unfortunately, the press-studs fastening of the waist didn’t appear to have been properly attached so they fell out after two rides. They’ve gone back but I’m debating whether I want to try another pair...

Can you fit knee pads under the Keela roadrunners? 🙂

I couldn’t get my big pads under the Roadrunners, reckon some slim ones would go fine though.

Slight thread resurrection rather than start new.

I've ordered and returned quite a few pairs in the meantime, and still struggling to find something that ticks all boxes. The main struggle was finding short leg "pants", the only ones I've found were Keela Road Runners, and now the new Alpkit Flow trousers. Both fit well and the Floe have good, close-fitting ankle closures.

The problem with both is lack of a reinforced seat. I returned the Keela on that basis, I'm now swithering over returning the Floes. They're nice trousers, but feel way too flimsy on the butt to last well. I'm a big fan of mudhuggers to keep my butt clean but even so.

Dunno if I have a question other than experience of shorts or trousers that's aren't reinforced in the seat. My Endura MT500 shorts used for winter have always given up there first and they are reinforced. I'd have thought it would be in the top set of design priorities

Just a counter to chakaping and his review of the Zeniths .I've just sent a pair back .They were perfect in all but one important overlooked detail .Why for the sake of pennies didn't they sew a strip of Velcro to secure the ankles ? They are quite fitted but still enough material to snag in chainrings ( yes some of is are still running 2 X and even 3 !)

@oldfart agree. I actually bought the same ones and had given up looking for anything shorter, so had them shortened. Then realised once riding that they're a bit "flappy". Only worn them once and would have sold them on if the Floes had been right, but I'm going to try and add my own velcro or elastic cinch on the ankle.

Not cheap but I'd buy them again if I needed new pants this winter. I also have the Decathlon AM pants which are decent for the price but much prefer the Fox's.

Start Cycles had a couple of pairs in store last weekend, 34 and 36 waist in black

my fox fire defend have seen me through two winters.. not marketed as anything beyond dwr IIRC but they've been excellent in all but the wettest days, although being the fire range, definitely warm

Everything I’ve had from Keela in the past have been pretty robust. Not tried the Roadrunners though. I think I’d aim for a more MTB looking trouser if it was me (sorry, just being a tart I guess).

I bought fox ranger and the waterproof ones also. The non waterproof are good. The waterproof ones fell apart at the zips in 2 rides. Waiting for some waterproof ion bike ones to arrive

Can't rate the quality of these enough. They do a full waterproof option and a half and half which keep your bum dry but vent at the front. Well thought out design and really tough material.

They are a bit Ron Hill Trackster material. Would still have kept them with a reinforced seat.
