I've no interest in the football at all. I wish England well of course, and it's a shame Scotland and Wales went out, but I have no desire at all to watch, so about 5pm tonight I intend to head out on the tandem for a loop of about 30km or so, hopefully with gloriously quiet roads. Last time England had a 5pm match during a major tournament we went out for a ride and hardly saw any cars at all, just bikes..

What's your choice?

- I only ride off road to empty roads make no difference
- I'm going to burn up the tarmac like I was drifting a Vauxhall Nova Sri
- I shall be in front of a TV the size of a house wall with prodigious amounts of food and beverages in order to cheer on my national team (or the opposition for those of that persuasion)
- some other entertainment (Please specify)

Shame that STW doesn't do polls any more...

Neither is likely. I don't really do evening rides, but i may take advantage of the roads and take the motorbike out.

Riding. Definitely riding.

It will be filthy and horrible based on the forecast but still better. 🙂

Would have probably been out for a ride but am on 10 days isolation after a test and trace pong on my phone after going out for a meal for the first time with friends in a year on Friday 😕

So probably football which is further complicated by an English father and German mum…

Watching the football.

I'm not really a big football fan, but I can't wait.
My 5yr old daughter is really excited about it & we've got a couple of massive pizzas in to eat while watching it with a couple of beers.

Of the choice - 'I only ride off road so empty roads make no difference' (except there is always road to get to the trails, so it will be nice this ev).

Reality - dad-taxi driving around for kid club stuff.

I'm thinking riding. Forecast is good too. Maybe an hour on the mtb and back for the last 15 mins of the match...

Riding. I'm hoping that it goes to extra time & penalties - I wont get home until 6ish so I'd like it if the roads are clear until about 8 if that's OK. Don't want all the upset England fans jumping in their car and going home in disgust too early after having a few pints in the pub 🙂

None of the above.
Run for the first half, get home around half time, shower, watch second half.
Perfect.

To add a little balance, I shall be watching the football* but also cooking dinner, enjoying dinner and supping an AF beer or two.

*43inch TV.

A sunny blast along the coast and into the woods... speedy 'follow my leader' single track stuff while avoiding trees ... stopping at the turnaround to talk shite with mates and put the world to right.. highlights of the footie and tennis can wait till later.
👍

Neither I am afraid, I will be watching the tour on tv and crafting my effigy of Nicola Sturgeon so I can retaliate her for stealing my holiday.

Watch the football and then Tour highlights. Was on turbo yesterday and will ride tomorrow.

Tuesday is supposed to be bodyweight/strength and conditioning for an hour but I am fairly relaxed about giving a session of that up.

Back in Euro 96 we sussed out that the roads were empty when the Ingerlanders were on the television. You have to put up with the media banging on about them but at least the roads are quiet.

This thread might aswell have been called "Do you like football?", if you're a footy fan and you decide to go for a bike ride then you're not a footy fan.

Don't get me wrong i love riding my bike and it'll be lovely and quiet on the roads due to said football so might aswell get out and enjoy.

Footy for me though, watched nearly every game of the euros so far, been a really good tournament and the two games last night, ooph what an evening.

England v Germany at Wembley in a major tournament hasn't happened for a while so if you're a footy fan then there's a lot of hype - just hope we come out and play and don't put on another show like we did against Scotland.

I'll be fitting a new crank to my son's bike. Occassional glances in to see how the boring, overpaid, pampered, weedy, male models are doing for "my country".
By chance watched the Spain match last night and had a fun time. Nowhere near as good as the Gallagher Prem final though.

Probably riding, but it looks borderline whether that will be outdoors, rain expected in close proximity on the western side of the South Downs during the match.

Riding while football is on is the best time to ride; quieter roads and parks. Just avoid the roads shortly before and after the game as people drive as if they're missing a flight.

Riding I think, could do with getting something done tonight and can't wait until after the football has finished since there'd probably be beer involved and the possibilty of extra time and pens.

It's the match for me. The hills will still be there afterwards.

Come on Eng-gur-land!

I've enjoyed the past couple of days football so I can't wait for England to disappoint.

I'll be watching the match. I can ride quiet trails anytime in the week. It's nice to be a small part of a big event.

I'll be out on my bike in my lunch break shortly. Likely I'll watch it, as the good lady has a sweep stake going at work. Better finish on time as TDF highlights at 7pm.

It's during dinner prep and eat time for me, so it will be on. I figure all the good / entertaining football was played yesterday, so this will be a typically drab affair either way. of course, happy to be proved wrong.

Il be taking up the riding option and catch the highlights later possibly based on what folks bookface statuses are implying 😁

We pulled off a masterstroke last night for Monday Night Pub Ride

Watched the Spain v Croatia game which was bonkers, went straight out and did this...

High line by bin lid, on Flickr

then landed in the pub just as the heavens opened. We sat in the beer garden, undercover and watched the France v Switzerland extra time and penalties on their mahoosive outdoor screen and had a few pints

If Carlsberg did Monday evenings... 😀

Its fair to say I'm not envisaging as much fun tonight.

Just to mix it up a bit, I'm off bouldering. Riding Thursday eve.

I think I knew England were playing tonight, didn't know what time until I read this thread. So it'll all be over by the time I get out anyway.

Riding.

Except it's chucking it down with thunder, so neither.

Best thing about Germany playing in the world cup footy, is that the local forest and trails are deserted.

Plans scuppered.
Off work today & I had to book a MRI scan,I was expecting to have to wait a few weeks for the scan, but someone had cancelled a appointment for 5.10 PM,so when all the Ingerlanders were getting fired up for the game I was getting my head scanned..
At least I got out on my Triumph earlier.

Finished work an hour early so everyone could watch the game so took the opportunity for a longer ride home, mix of xc (aka farm tracks/bridleways/footpaths) and country lanes, 18 miles instead of 5. Didn't make it home in time for match 🤷‍

Just updating, we did indeed get out on the tandem and quite frankly it was bloody wonderful, with the exception of a (thankfully brief and fast downhill) section on the A6, the roads were wonderfully quiet. Can we have more international football matches with 5pm midweek kick offs, please

I will be doing a reasonably short bridleway/forest ride, to see how our recently acquired dog takes to it.
He's fine off the lead, when I'm walking, so I hope he deals with the bike Ok.

Well, what a success that was - he ran alongside nicely, ranged ahead when he felt like it, took the odd detour into the trees, to investigate stuff, chased a few rabbits (but stopped when I called him back) only ran in front of me a few times, and didn't laugh when I ran into a tree.

I officially have a new trail buddy 🐶🌲🚴🐇
