I normally ride on the Quantocks but I live fairly close to the Mendips. Are they any good for riding? I've read a couple things but there's not a lot of info. Anyone else ridden there? Any tips on where to go, what to look out for? Are there any decent decents?

Can be very good [taps side of nose]. Get someone to show you around.

Warning: they are noticeably muddier than the Qs. You have pick trails carefully to enjoy them in winter.

Like Buzz says!

The AONB trail leaflets are useful and there's an entry in the Trail Guide section up above.

Also we have a regular Thursday night ride from Shipham - feel free to come along sometime, we're quite a sociable bunch.

This was the thread about the forum ride last summer. Various pics, Poddy's were the best IMO. It was popular so I plan another one this year

Blimey. Look at those dusty trails. That's gratuitous cruelty posting those pics Buzz... 😉

ADH - anytime mate - be great to see you again.

I have some riding freinds who are very knowledgeable of the area & would be able to show you around.
Alternativley pop into http://www.bikecity.biz/index.html they will give you some great routes, they also operate local rides including every Tuesday night (best phone to check) & accomodate all levels of fitness.
Sorry about the unashamely obvious plug but these guys are great.

I'm free to ride locally tomorrow, probably afternoon, for 2-3 hours and maybe a pint. Happy for some company and to show you the layout. The Swan at Rowberrow and the Burrington Combe Inn are good starting points for the main areas.

Email in my profile

Thanks for the replys and offers for rides guys! The Genesis is out of action at the moment though after a ride before Christmas! Need to sort it out! I feel I might get absolutely cained by you lot, I've only got into it again lately and need to get my confidence/speed up. I'll give you a shout when I'm heading up there next, sounds like it could be better up there in the summer?!

" might get absolutely cained by you lot,"

Err no. I'm quite pedestrian both up and down - I call it "leisure cycling". 🙂
