Tidworth freeride if that's your thing? Depends on what you mean by close by though!

When I did my bicycle academy frame building course a couple of years back I joined a Wednesday evening locals ride that took in loads of trails around Longleat. I'm sure done of them post on here, welcoming bunch and done good riding.

To be fair, you do frequently see groups of cyclists around Longleat, think there are some good routes around the forest but you might need a guide.

I don't do gpx. OS Explorer shows bridleways onto, around and beyond Cold Kitchen Hill, about due South of CP. It's a while since I've been there. There was another similar question a week or so ago.

Having lived on the Longleat estate for nearly 7 years. I can confirm that you do not need to travel far to find trails!.. Definitely take the mtb!

There are HUNDREDS of singletrack trails. Something for every type of rider. You will want to focus your efforts north around Shearwater. There is a small road through the forest that divides the two main riding areas. South of the road (Shearwater side) is muddier and has a good mix of gravel fireroads and very technical mtb trails. North of the road is generally dryer.

The trick with longleat riding is "if you see a small entrance into the bushes on the side along a fireroad, go in it!" CHances are it will be a fantastic little trail.

If you're after DH tracks, then you need to go to Black canon collective.

Here is my Strava Heatmap of the trails below...

Echo the above.
Lots of riding in Longleat directly the other side of the centreparc fences. Can be soft and pine needly so I would recommend thicker tyres. Plenty to entertain for a couple of hours, and more if you want to add loops here and there. Nearby pub the Bath Arms at Shearwater makes a nice refreshment stop. Lots of it is singletrack with a few jumps and berms thrown in here and there. Nothing to worry about barrelling into at high speed.

Head out of the Centreparcs main gate, directly after security there's an obvious path on the right that follows the perimeter fence. Head down that to its end at a junction/road corner. Lots of paths heading off from this area so go exploring.

For a more traditional 'long' ride, getting out by bridleway onto cold Kitchen hill and perhaps onward onto white sheet down can be pleasant on a sunny day, a grim achievement if grey and windy.

Went round there today whilst my suspension was being serviced at TF tuned. Wanted to survey the place as I am hopefully moving back to the Plain next summer.

Great ride and loads of fun. Shall be back!
