Is this really a good idea?
Got some new wheels and ordered torque caps but they are coming from America so could be ages.
I have fitted the wheel using the standard 15mm end caps. apparently this is supposed to be ok but to me it looks as though the axle is going to be put under a lot of strain when weighted and during impacts. The end caps are not being supported from above like they would be with Torque caps or in dropouts designed for standard 15mm End caps.

Been running my Yari (180mm) without torque caps without issue.
I am thinking of making some adaptors to stick on which will make it easier to fit the wheel into the dropout though.
When the Lyriks first went to torque cap dropouts, but torque caps hubs were still difficult to come by, a friend rode a several EWS races (probably the whole season) with a standard 15mm hub. They didn't die and nothing broke.
Obviously it would be best to use the proper hub end caps but I'm sure you'll be fine whilst you wait for them to come through.
Looks wrong and makes it more of a faff putting your wheel in but those are the only issues. You are 100% fine without the torque caps.
It's no different to the old days when we had 135x12mm rear axles- there was no support in the frame for the hub then, and they were also really bloody annoying to fit.

Anyone remember when Pace made hubs with HUGE end caps (and BB size bearings) to increase the fork QR dropout to hub interface? Torque before their time. I might still have one somewhere… [old man drifts off into a misty place]
Been riding a pike on my ebike without them for about a year, no noticeable difference between torque and standard imo
I'm running mine without too. Had Hope torque caps on a 27.5" before and can't feel any difference without. Using the Newmen adaptors now to just help guiding them in. Work well.
Yeah, they're fine without the torque caps, I've been using them that way for 3 years with no issues.
