Rode in Mont Alpet bike park on Saturday and it was mid 20s.
Parked up last night at Viola bike park around the corner to meet friends today. Wake up and it's cold inside the van, 7°C outside and drizzle*.
This will be the first time in more than a year that I go ride in the rain.
Kinda excited.....! Other than the cold.... Got my winter 5:10s out the garage!
* I know, it's drizzle, not rain, but still.
Rain doesn't matter when you're a sweaty bloke... you just get slightly wetter, slightly earlier.
Every ride i come back looking like i've got out of a swimming pool.
Yeah but dust sticking to sweat is a bit different to getting covered in mud.
Blimey, doing well not to have ridden in the rain. I commute on the bike, so usually get rained on at least once a week.
I love a ride where it's hissing down and muddy as hell as a novelty.
After 4 months of it the novelty gets a little old 😐
Yeah I like sticking the big spiky mud tyres on and having a good slide about in the mud on my bike for a few weeks. By January the novelty has worn off and by March its really dragging having to clean up the bike and all the kit!
Can't stand riding in the rain and listening to all my components getting chewed to pieces but quite like running in bad weather.
It's not Rain I mind so much as Cold combined with rain, I can stand being wet, I can stand being cold, I bloody hate being cold AND wet at the same time.
At the same time I also dislike overestimating how cold/wet it's going to be and ending up in a boil in the bag waterproof while the sun beams down and I become an overheating sweaty mess...
I'll be wearing (showerproof) Gilets, Arm/leg/knee warmers, possibly the old surplus cut-off Gore-Tex over-shorts, and taking buffs until it's absolutely too cold not to need a proper jacket this Autumn/Winter.
Got my winter 5:10s out the garage!
Are these ones that take less than a month dry out?
I resent the wind when I'm out on the bike. I can do wet - I'm used to it, and now we're all wearing trousers, it matters less, and I can do cold - although I have noticed that as I get older I deal with cold less well, but a lazy wind - that never seems to be a tail wind, or if it does, it's just for a minute, but as a head wind is otherwise the rest of the ride, can do one.
Wet, any temperature - go for a run
Dry, any temperature - go for a ride
it's nice to have options😀
Its not the wet that bothers me, in fact there is a sense of satisfaction in getting back, getting changed and dry, then sitting there worn out with a tea and cake.
However, its the wet + cold that gets me. I get really cold fingers and toes extremely quickly and whilst I can cope with the toes, not being able to feel the fingers to operate the brakes is rather disconcerting to say the least. So unfortunately a rainy day often means no riding for me.
Porco dio.
Well the drizzle turned to rain.
Was feeling the cold whilst waiting for one of the lads to change his pads so took refuge in the small bike shop there. I'm now the owner of a new (albeit very muddy) pair of nice riding trousers. Bonus they were discounted 35% because end of season. Was well worth it to be able to have clean pads at the end of the day.
Was glad I coated my goggles with rain-x last night. Stupidly forgot the anti fog stuff. Not that it would have made much difference as the fog was so thick and the goggles were smeared with spray and muck within seconds of dropping in.
Took the gopro for a couple of runs but don't think the trails are visible through the mud on the lens.
Managed six runs. Two lads punctured on the last run. Think everyone was happy to call it a day as we could barely feel our fingers.

What bike did it used to be ?
Can’t stand riding in the rain and listening to all my components getting chewed to pieces but quite like running in bad weather.
Same, I'm pretty much a fair weather rider these days but I'll do a wet ride if it's something I've planned and booked a day off for. Don't mind the cold but the wet I can do without. Both together is the worst. I'd probably rather be at home playing my guitar than riding in the slop haha. Hate hearing my drivetrain getting caked in grinding paste.
Doesnt look fun at all.
Rain = Turbo trainer
Was incredibly good fun.....!
I had a turbo trainer. Realised it was boring as F and sold it. How depressing riding a stationary bike on your own with no views in your garage/shed/spare room. How do you even wheelie?
I'm in Finale now. Weather is moody so I'm helping an old friend build a pizza oven.
Great fun riding in the rain last night, especially with the right gear.
Sod a turbo trainer
Definitely sod a turbo (I have a smart one) - to be used for injury recovery. Commuting to work on the bike builds the baseline fitness, and it's all weather - I never chicken out. Fun stuff, then I'll decide. I try not to let the two classic road bikes get wet these days, so it's either the FS or the CX bike in rubbish conditions. Need guards for the CX though.
