Hi,
Im visiting the Lake District for a few days this week and will be taking the bike out for one of those days. After rummaging through the forums for ideas and routes i decided on Skiddaw/Ullock Pike, however the weather aint looking too great. Im thinking ill be able to avoid snow by riding on either the Wednesday or Thursday but i think we can assume its gonna be blooming wet! Is this a stupid idea? Maybe i would i be better off finding a ride on lower ground? Im willing to use one of the trail centres if need be (probably Whinlatter) but id be gutted to miss out on the opportunity of riding something a bit more proper seeing I'm not going to get the chance to visit this part of the country again anytime soon. Any reassurance or alternative routes that are more suited for crappy British weather would be really appreciated.
Easter Holidays not really the best time to ride a popular footpath anyway. Grizedale is a great lower level option, loads of great bridleways that you can combine with the not mega-exciting trail centre stuff.
If it snows bigly tonight and tomorrow the tops will be covered for the rest of the week at least, even tough it's warming up. It won't be that nice snow either. It'll be minging and dangerously slippy on the slates. Lower level would be a better bet particularly on your own.
Loads of off piste in grizedale too, look on Strava. Or loads of lower routes around Keswick, if that's where your staying. If the snows lines retreated enough back o skiddaw might be on
Appreciate your advice. Yeah think im gonna have to have more of a look at the Grizedale area. Ill be staying nearby anyway which would make it nice and easy. Ive found a Grizedale/Parkamoor route which looks a decent ride and I’ll search around strava for some more ideas. Ill still be keeping an eye on the weather mind in the hope of some techy, alpine action!
