Looks like I'm moving from the coast to Crawley in the summer and having never ridden the area can't say i know it that well so what's the crack?

I know the Surrey Hills are only a short drive away and Brighton/Southdowns are equally as do able but would like some riding without having to get in the car and drive there!

St Leonards and Tilgate are the areas that seem to come up all the time but how good are they and are there any regular groups that ride there?

Also are there any other areas to consider nearby?

Cheers

Tilgate has an active trail building community - I believe it's now pay to ride in the 'proper' bits.

this forum is worth a look: http://z6.invisionfree.com/Sussex_Muddyarse/index.php?act=idx

Riding from the door you've mentioned the main two areas - both pretty awful in the winter.

How good are they? - Nothing special but depends what you're used to/what you want?

Tilgate has some 'mini' DH runs but there is also plenty of XC singletrack that can be joined up for a couple of hours loop - it's just knowing where it is.

You can ride from Tilgate to St Leonards to make a larger/longer loop with a few more bits of singletrack there.

The Muddy@rses do have a regular(ish) Wed evening ride at Tilgate, but it has tailed off this winter due to numbers/conditions.
