It looks like I will be on a business trip soon to Melbourne and Tasmania, and I may have a weekend in Hobart. Anyone happen to know if there is any good riding straight out of the city and somewhere to hire a decent bike?

Cheers

Based in Launceston here, if your north could find somewhere to sort you with a Bike. When are you heading over?

Little intro to some of the trails out my back door here in Launceston too.

Melbourne riders on here too, for bikes there would suggest My Mountain had some demo bikes.

Cheers Mike! Singletrack is amazing!

Not sure if I'll be in Melbourne or Hobart over the weekend - but it's in a couple of weeks, weekend of 9/10 March. Is it relatively easy to get up north on public transport from Hobart?

public transport

PMSL

there is a bus....

That sounds like the Long weekend I'll be up in Buller that weekend at the Bike Festival but there is this going on
http://lmbc.com.au/index.php/site/ben_lomond_mountain_bike_festival up north.
Check out these guys
http://www.dirtdevilsmtb.com/news.php LMBC has a fcebook page that you can join. People here are quite friendly.

Are you just in Oz for a few days? We will be doing some Melbourne riding next weekend on our way up to Buller (Weekend after the long one (16/17th) is the GP so melbourne will be a bit crazy)

If your stuck mail is in profile and I can probably point you in the right direction.

Ah....so public transport not big in Tasmania, then...? OK - good to know, I had just assumed.

Yes fly in on Thursday, back on Tuesday - but at least I get a long weekend!

Thanks for those links - much appreciated. Determined to get on more than a Melbourne Boris bike this time.

Definitely some great riding in Hobart if you're there for a weekend - the north-south track is a lot of fun...

Cyclingo in South Hobart have SC Hecklers to rent, and its a great spot to start exploring trails from there. Depending on when you're here, I might be able to show you some of our tracks.

Thanks Mike, Harry and John. Probably in Hobart Saturday / Sunday of the long weekend in a couple of weeks. Should confirm that in next few days. Would be great to hook up if you're around, but I warn you I'm a crap rider (and today is the first day back in the saddle after abdominal surgery - great snow ride!).

Will post back on here once confirmed.

Cheers guys!

How much is it to get from mainland to Tasmania? as that looks awesome

Anyone on here know what the biking is like near Canberra, we are moving out there end of the year. I have YouTube'd it a fair bit but nice to hear from people who have actually riden there.

Looks like there is a good scene down near Melbourne, but thats some distance I know.

Right, I have just had confirmation that the trip is on and so I will be in Hobart next Saturday / Sunday / Monday (9th / 10th / 11th).

I tried contacting Cyclingo without any luck but I see that they close from Saturday lunchtime for the rest of the weekend - any other hiring suggestions, please?

Cheers

Cyclingo has the best bikes to hire. It's a small shop & they can get busy.
Or I could you hook you up with something.

Bike hired from Cyclingo - incredibly helpful. John is a top bloke. I rode round mount Wellington today - inlcuding getting to the top. Tomorrow (Sunday) will try out Clarence bike park.

Cheers
