Hi guys, me and Mrs Mac have a night away coming up down in Devon, more specifically near Crediton. Any decent MTB riding around there? Thanks in advance!

Depends what you're after. Not a huge amount around Crediton itself, but you're not far from Haldon, Dartmoor, the Quantocks and Woodbury Common.

Haldon - okish marked trails, but an abundance of great off-piste stuff. Very winch and plummet. Local knowledge is useful.

Dartmoor - some classic big rides up there. Lustleigh cleave is a favourite.

Quantocks - bloody lovely. Loads of choice, from xc blasts to DH trails. Miles of trails.

Woodbury - loads of nice single-track, even a few short DH runs. drains amazingly well, so good if it's wet. Not much elevation though.

Oh, and Exmoor. Not done much MTB riding there, but meant to some good stuff up Minehead/Porlock way.

I think you’ve picked about the only place without any good riding...

Yep, and it's Crediton *shudders*

I taught there for a year. Very 'local' Devon.

QE?

Main riding spots covered above. Haldon is nearest but fairly steady if you don’t know where the off piste is.

Yep, staff lovely, kids mental. Actually not all, but a large proportion.
Only time I've ever been spat on.

Ha, my daughters went there. Had a good time and did ok.

Being spat on is not acceptable though and I’m shocked to hear that. How long ago?

There were some lovely kids don't get me wrong, but I had a specific class of SEN student (the Gobber amongst them).

The smokers, of which there were many, used to stand just outside the main school gate and jeer at the PCSO as he tried to move them on.

Ah, halcyon days!

Anyway, waaaaaay off topic. Sorry OP 😘

If riding at Haldon, try to tap up a local to guide you. Plenty of us around on here.

Blimey, and I think it’s gone downhill since then. My girls were both there 11 years ago. Neither gobbers though, I can confirm.

Excellent, may be asking the wife to find somewhere else then 😂

Crediton is not that bad but wouldn’t be high on many peoples list as a few days away holiday destination. There’s one or two better places to stay in Devon to say the least @danmac and better access to trails on Dartmoor - only after the 12th of April of course 😉

I dont think its actually in Crediton, its just the closest town/village. Shes booked a glamping tent pod thingy on some farmland and i asked her what there was to do around there. Got a response of "i dunno"🙈 so just thought id ask the question and decide if ot was worth taking the bikes

Cann Woods had some fun lines when I went there in Summer just gone.  Plenty for a days exploring and sessioning.

Cann Woods

Opposite side of Dartmoor though, 50 miles away maybe?

If you're wanting cycling from the door around Crediton, then you're better off with a gravel/road bike.
Head out towards Shobrooke Park maybe, but there's miles of lovely lanes going in any direction.

Cove woods are 30 minutes away, great riding but steep and techy

I live near Crediton and can confirm that there is no proper mountain biking until you get to Haldon. If you have a gravel bike there are miles of poorly surfaced rough lanes which can be very quiet.

Check out fingle bridge area (good pub on the river with some nice rides), have friends in crockenwell it gets hilly quickly of the main roads.

Check out fingle bridge area

I heard the trails there had been shut for the summer due to ground nesting bird season? notices and cameras on each trail.
