After having too much uni work to get oit out my bike in the one decent summer we have in years, I'm getting a bit of payoff - a month in Colorado with nothing to do but ride, and I've got a loan of a Santa Cruz fancy carbon full suspension and a Specialized Sequoia

I'm meeting friends in Telluride today for a couple of days riding, then staying at my friend's ranch in Cortez, in south west Colorado for the duration.

Anyone got tips for great places to ride, on either bike?

Their local riding place is called Phils World, and they've mentioned riding in Utah. Crested Butte doesn't look to far away either...

Following with interest as we are heading that way soon. Moab isn't too far

Crusty Butt is great, I couldn't tell you of any trails tho (I rode there 92).  Hermosa Creek (Durango) was good too. Moab is too. Blimey all of Colorado is mint.

Crested Butte, Winter Park, Leadville, Durango, Fruita, all places I’ve cycled and enjoyed. Crested Butte (403/401 was the best day I’ve ever had on my mountain bike, hell, one of my best days ever full stop).

would love to go back. monarch crest (Salida I think) def on the list.

Moab for Porc Rim.

a month you say. Not. Jealous. Nope. No. Way....

Oh, make sure you pick the right month I was in CB end of June one year and the higher trails (inc 401) weren’t open and still had snow on the top third....

oh, I also fancy a crack at the Colorado Trail... that’s a fortnight probably, right there 😜

Fruita! Lovely little downtown area, a short drive from Grand Junction. Great local scene, lots of trails. As above, it's then about a 4(?) hour drive down to Moab through some amazing canyons. Very jealous!

I'm in Grand Junction now actually. I think I've picked the right time of year. Sunny, 23c and no snow

Should be good, I'm going to be in Boulder next month and by that time of year there's sometimes a spot of snow but shouldn't be too much. More in the mountains though!

Did the 401 a few weeks ago - conditions were amazing, the trail was epic. Don’t listen to anyone telling you to only do half, the 1st bit is the best.

Make sure you got plenty of water, snacks and any bits you need.

I used to live in Breckenridge, so have a bit of fondness for the some of the riding there. Especially the peaks trail. Check out MTB project for CO and see what you fancy. There's good trails all around. Fruita is close to Junction, so is Moab. Both are great.

Fruita! The bike shop (on the edge?) will sort you out with maps and trail advice

Most of my Colorado riding has been in Crested Butte which is at 9000' elevation.  Aspens were just turning last week when I visited, but it's getting late in the year for high mountain riding. Weather can turn quickly.

Boulder is at a lower elevation, lots of good riding there.

You may have early snow fall high up in September, but I can regularly ride the high country into October. I was riding CB in October a year or two ago. It's just cold in the morning. So far no snow in Summit county. Can't imagine there's any fallen yet given the temps we were having.

Decent XC riding generally. Great scenery. Bit hot for a Scot. Been enjoying some night riding and tarantula dodging
