You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi Guys,
I know this has been asked before from having a search but all the posts are now quite old.
I've been living in Nantwich for a year now and frustrated at the lack of local riding having moved away from Matlock near the Peak District.
I ride Llandegla regularly and found Delamere a little difficult when its not a set route (perhaps better if I knew the area). Going back to the Peak can be a little far. I know there's Hanchurch Woods but fear its more like Delamere in terms of you have to know it. I also know Macc Forest is an alternative.
However, I'm looking for anything closer and easier.
I walk the dog regularly around Peckforton and Bulkely Hill and it's a shame there's only the one Bridleway through it.
Who would have though the county that hosts the international horse show wouldn't have Bridleways...
Hi,
There has been alot of felling in Delamere last few weeks and with the construction of the holiday cabins and access, there is even less singletrack to play with. It not getting any better..

Sod all decent nearby (fellow nantwich resident) but its only a quick blast down the lanes to deggy, the natural stuff in the clywds or equally quick to Cannock and miles of cheeky decent stuff there. Cheshire is flatter than a kippers willy, so not great for MTB. Gravely bike from nantwich over to delamere and primrose woods, grestys waste etc... And back is good for an early morning leg stretch though
There are masses of little tracks and bridleways around Siddington, Peover, Swettenham etc. Just not gnarly enough to require a mountain bike. Great for gravel bikes though.
Thanks all - as I suspected but thought it was worth asking!
Tazzy - yes Deggy is my regular now and I aim to try the Clywds soon. How long does it take you to get to Cannock?
Hi,
I live right next to Delamere so if you want someone to ride around with next time your out give me a shout.
BF
~8 miles out is Bickerton, Peckforton and Raw Edge, some great stuff around there. Small area but good riding. We used to ride out there from Nantwich area as teenagers to go biking for the day.
Get a road bike, its ace round there
Nantwich, nice place! Im in Liverpool so have a similar issue
Delamere, ride it with some locals, few group / shop rides, you will learn it best that way (in daylight), free to come with me but its rare i go there!
If you are at Llandegla regularly, explore the natural bits more, Llangollen area, Clywds area, loads of routes, DM me if you want some starve routes or to go together sometime!
I had the same problem when I used to mountain bike and I moved from Rossendale to the edge of the Ribble Valley and Bowland Fells; Rossendale is the downstream part of Calderdale, which is absolutely busting with amazing stuff to ride but once you're in farm land or huntin' shootin' fishin' land you're very short of decent riding.
I've worked out an interesting little route in the Jodrell Bank area. Even though it's flat (or perhaps because it's flat), everyone seems to really enjoy it. 14 miles, so good for a quick after-work ride. PM me if you'd like a gpx, or mmo, or pdf.
I'd like a copy of that please Esme, (Weaverham here) I'll send you a message, cheers.
There's loads of offroad joy to be had around MowCop and to the east, looks like 45 min drive from you but closer than the Peaks. There's also 'the cloud' above Congleton, which is maintained by a local mtb group.
PM me if of interest.
I can also lead you round Hanchurch once the undergrowth dies back, Hanchurch is a 10 minute ride from where I live. :o)
Thanks for all the info guys. Do any of you ride weekdays at all? I mainly work weekends.
Going to be in Delamere forest for a couple of hours this Saturday morning. 10am at the station cafe, (as in railway station). Look out for some er, 'striking' yellow and blue Weaver Valley CC club kit if you fancy a ride/are available. Will be riding the off-piste stuff as the marked trails are sub-green. Don't ride weekdays myself, Twelve50 cycles do an evening ride round Delamere in the week, can't remember which day though.
Give Twelve50 bikes in Frodsham a call. They do a weekly shop ride round delamere and can show you all the decent stuff. Very friendly bunch.
My parents live in Nantwich and it's a relatively short trip for me to visit them from Shropshire to the south of you, which is a an MTB paradise compared to pancake flat Cheshire. Eastridge, Hopton, Bucknell, Mortimer, Bringewood, the Long Mynd and Stiperstones etc.
I live just south of Chester, so in a similar situation. Regularly frustrated by lack of riding out the door - you do have to get in a car I'm afraid.
As well as Delamere and Llandegla (both of which can get a bit boring after a while) I'd look to the Ceiriog Valley and Llangollen way; Flatyres-MTB has some routes over that way.
Other suggestions of Shrewsbury are also valid. I didnt like Cannock Chase at all but then I don't know any of the off piste/cheeky lines there.
I know routes around Delamere and would hit it in the summer after work. The felling there does ruin all the good routes though.
