Looks like I will be moving to Melrose in April for at least a year. I know there is a heap of good riding a short drive away. What is available as a ride out and back from Melrose itself? I prefer to ride direct from home whenever I can.
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks that is very helpful. Any off-road is good but my preference is towards technical if at all possible. Any tips on that side of the riding spectrum?
I'm new to the area, not had a lot of time to explore but the eildon hills are good for a couple hours very muddy at the bottom though. can't really complain though as it is actually outside my front door.
Looking forward to exploring some more.
Eildons are good, but as said muddy near the bottom, best way up onto them is from either Eildon on one side or along the loch side at Bowdenmoor on the other.
There is riding off the top of Gala Hill and in the woods along the north side of Gala above Langlee, you can link the two with a path along the tweed at Boleside and up the SUW to Gala Hill.
I live in Gala and usually just jump in the car to the forests further up the Tweed valley, Innerleithen is only 12 miles and the riding is amazing.
Yair forest is good and is the closest, you can ride up from Philliphaugh in Selkirk to the Three Brethern, or the way I normally go is up from the car park at Yair Bridge.
Plenty of great riding here and lots of locals willing to show you around. Just give us a shout when you are here. Also worth hooking up with mtb Borders forum, lots of forums rides and a great way to see the sites
I live I melrose, cracking place to be. What brings you here?
Looks like good weather this week hopefully get a few hours exploring after work
