Just wondering if anyone has any information on how the trails are around this particular town?
I've been trying to find some information and it looks like the riding is excellent (as far as I can tell Veronica Widman and the Denim Destroyer are from here) but I'm also reading a lot about bike bans and bikes not being allowed on the funivia. In particular I'm trying to figure out how it is on Kohlern.
I get that there is loads of riding a relatively short drive away but if I only have a couple of hours at a time to spare I'd like to have some 'go to' local trails.
Are there any trail associations or groups that might have local knowledge it might be worth getting in touch with?
Also, which months are the local trails generally considered 'rideable'?
Have a look for Maurizio Deflorian on FB. He used to have a website and maybe you can find it
around this particular town?
Around the town no. But Bike park Brixen half an hour up the valley is a lot of fun, as is the natural riding. Don't know about seasons, but it was a lot less snowy than the high Alps end of Sept.
Oh, and the Brixen lifts are all v bike friendly as all the lifts round about seemed to be. We did a four day loop involving Cortina with lifts taking a fair deal of the grind and no issues anywhere.
Great area, though a lot more German than italian . Nothing against German, just I really like Italian... Friendly germanic greeting from the unnervingly healthy looking young woman on one station "Ah, you are on a man-trip!" A line worthy of recycling.
Oh and the bike park isn't huge - just one very doable black which we rode in the rain and some fun reds and whatever, all googlable- but everything was in pretty good nick a couple of months ago.
Some good riding around Bozen. The lifts in/around town used to take bikes, not sure on the situation now as it's been a couple of years since I last rode there.
Lower stuff all along the Etsch Valley can be ridden pretty much all year.... Bozen lies at ~250m. Lower elevation than Munich despite being surrounded by proper mountains.
Vinschgau valley is a short drive north and has lots of year round riding.
Paganella is also not far away and worth two or three days.
Thanks for the replies.  Maurizio Deflorian's training.camp page (and training.camp in general are proving to be a goldmine. I'll try to check out Brixen but it looks like there are a crazy amount of lifts in this area.
Reading a bit more it looks like Bolzano has some weird rules regarding riding (for example, bikes are banned from paths less than 2m wide but with little explanation of how this is measured). I need to find some locals to find out how serious they are about enforcing all this.
