Planning to do some riding in the south east of France (. I have been using trail forks to find trails and there are plenty!
Are there any french sights which list races?(like moredirt)
Is it a big problem racing a local race having very little french?
Anything else that needs to be said?
-Greg
The various federations will have list of races, ffc, ufolep etc...
magazines like Velo vert are good too .
To race you need a licence or a doctor note less than a year old .
No big problem with not speaking French.
this is the Vtt Guru of the south east  Greg Germain

I've raced in France twice despite speaking next to no French and it wasn't a problem. Everything was done in French and then again in English for the foreigners (because obviously everyone who isn't French will speak perfect English, and it seemed to work, all the Spaniards, Poles and Swedes did indeed speak English)
This was at quite big races though, Transvesubienne and the Mega, not sure if the smaller ones would be bilingual.
Have also raced in Italy four times and proceedings there were in Italian and English and also Slovakia where they did away with Slovakian entirely and just did it in English, so that the Italians and Austrians would understand. The only place I've raced where nothing was in English was Switzerland but I speak enough German that it wasn't an issue.
A French Federation race license requires an annual medical - if you don't have an equivalent BC License then you'll probably need to show a medical certificate, or sometimes they'll demand a medical certificate even with a BC License.
Oh wow thanks guys this is killer info!
It is pretty tricky finding this stuff online, I remember finding moredirt being a revolution.
I'm super interested in some italian races as well. Are there similar sights for the Italian scene which you guys know of?
You can mess about with the Roots and Rain calendar and drill it down to what you want
