You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
As title - is this A) allowed & B) a stupid idea? Am I likely to end up just running around a filthy field while pushing a bike? I did enter a few CX races as a junior but that was 20+ years ago now.
I've hardly been out on my bike this year and thinking about entering a few CX things this winter, to motivate myself. The singlespeed in question is an Inbred 26", v-brakes, flat bars (although some shallow drop bars to be fitted this week, just out of curiosity).
Yes you can ride a mtb in a CX event. Some courses will suit it, others won't.

FTFY 😀
By all means give it a go, you'll be fine and highly unlikely to be last.

Unlikely in september, but quite possibly by november when your v brakes pick up so much mud the wheels stop turning.
A) In 95% of events in the UK, yes. If it's in the 5% you'll probably get your entry back anyway as you are unlikely to make the grade. (National Trophy type stuff)
B) Choose your gear and event carefully. I've done races where everyone was running for 1/2 the lap (soft squishy ankle deep mud after a thaw.). I've done others where we've averaged near enough 30kph for an hour (hardpack, pan flat. Like a crit. Needed sun block.)
You won't be last, you will get lapped, it will be fun. If your definition of fun fits......
