So,
Got an email this week direct from Nukeproof saying;
“Nukeproof has identified a potential safety issue with certain 2022 Nukeproof Solum Frames.
Frames outside this period are unaffected and are safe to continue riding. In some
instances, the internal butting of the downtube may fall below our accepted tolerance levels;
posing a risk of premature frame failure, which could result in a fall and subsequent injury.
While there have been only a limited number of reported failures and no injuries to date, we
are committed to ensuring the safety of our customers and have therefore initiated a stop
ride notice and voluntary recall.”
I’ve tried contacting the retailer (CRC, no luck), Nukeproof direct and even tried to work out how to contact CRC administrators (frankly I suspect not worth the effort as I can’t see me being viewed as important).
So, do I just keep using the bike for pootling round the pump track (definitely no air time) or cut my losses and get a new frame and move the parts across?
I’m not heavy (12st at worst) and won’t be doing any dirt jumping on it (just pump track as above). What do we think?
Well I'm 14.5 stone. Same problem. Going to keep riding it and keep a keen eye on the welds. And I'll be jumping it.
Good excuse to buy what I really want at some point though! (transition pbj)
Cheers @el_boufador, I think I’ll just take it steady and keep watching it as you say. If I get more nervous I’ll go for an Airdrop Fade given they’re local to me too.
I'm not sure I would want to take it on the chin and keep using it
Given a total redundancy of all staff at Nukeproof and the imminent future of the brand 1. Who was left to issue the recall and 2. What did they think would happen if you did send it back to them? It's slightly bizarre/disingenuous to send an email like that without addressing the imminent future of the brand/company. You might not be an internet bike nerd and know. It might as well have said "the bike we sold you has a better than average chance of breaking but we're just about to leave the building so either ride it at your risk but don't say we didn't tell you, or turn it into wall art, up to you".
Yeah I did wonder that @convert. Their email unhelpfully directed you to Companies House website “if your retailer is in administration” but to a page which then linked to another which was a dead end 404 page. So useless.
keep a keen eye on the welds
If its internal butting, that will be part way along the tubes, not the welds. Do companies like nukeproof do their own butting or buy in tubing? Unless they've just cut the tubes to length too close to the butting this could be a problem with other brands using that tube set?
Steel jump bikes for the win
Send it back and you'll never see it again.
Saw a post on FB someone slightly naively sent some forks back to CRC. Communications went roughly along the lines of .
Thanks for the forks, we have no money. If your want a percentage of not much back, contact the administrators
