My quest to get out of trail centres this year hasn’t really worked that well for various reasons.

Looking for recommendations for stuff to ride that’s similar-ish to Heartbreak Ridge please?

Stuff with a reasonable climb, preferably mostly rideable and a decent descent, and bonus points for some nice views 😎

We’re based in Ayrshire but have van and will travel 😁

Cheers

The Lakes.
That's where we head when needing a climby, techy, viewy, downy type of riding fix as its easier/quicker then heading north from here in (East) Ayrshire.

I was going to suggest the Lakes too, but it seemed sacrilegious to suggest to someone closet to the 'gorms ( or is he)

Barrow if you want an easier version of HR
Ullock if you want a harder version

Have you ridden the other side of the valley in Ballater. The climb up to Final Destination is a decent one & the views at the top are great.

Its also a much better trail than HR, in my opinion too.

It's a nice loop and the top flowy section is fun, but worth noting that the technical sections are way steeper and harder than anything on HBR (just in case anyone decides to have a crack at it after bimbling down HBR).

What would the tech bits compare to in the Lakes, do you know?

Just for future reference.

@chakaping - sorry, I've not ridden in the Lakes.

Most of it was fine but there were a couple of sections.. chunky, janky rocks and steep, exposed switchbacks (02:40 and 03:15 here) which would be easy to get in trouble on (as usual GoPro effect doesn't do them justice).

Thanks, another trip to Ballater on the cards then, we didn’t have time to do anything else when we were up there last time. Presume we want to save it for some drier weather.

And definitely want to do more in the Lakes. Kendal is just closer than Aviemore 🙂

It's called Culblean Hill Track Hiking Trail on TF, Final Destination on Strava.
