You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sooooo, next week I am on holiday with the family a few miles from Inveraray and I have been gifted a free day off to ride!
I will be on my MTB but have no idea about decent routes around there, so I am looking to the great singletrack collective for advice and inspiration.
I will not have access to a car for the day, so I need routes near to Inveraray. Maybe around 20 miles?
In advance, thank you!
Not a lot looking at Memory Map, depends what you want though. I'd head north on the A83 to the top of Loch Shira, I can see a track that heads to the end of Lochan Shira (reservoir). I'd be quite content to go there for some peace & quiet then come steadily back!
Auchindrain (wee museum) up and over to Loch Awe and back. Mixed bag of singletrack and forest road. Fair bit of climbing but worth it if you're in the area. Probably a gps file somewhere if ya google it.
There's a short 12 mile loop at Arrochar up the fireroad to Coiregrogain and come back down Glen Loin, a well-known little loop with a decent descent on singletrack. There's the munros in the Arrochar Alps for some elevation if the weather's good. Glen Kinglass.
Thanks, I have found a GPS file for the Auchindrain loop, looks good, maybe 35 miles all in to the cottage I am staying in. Sounds boggy.
Auchindrain = Auchin-doesn'-drain
It's in the original Kenny Wilson guidebook so you'll need to have some perseverance and a sense of humour.

The character of the route has been drastically changed in the last 5 years or so (since the Kenny Wilson book) by new landy track being built. I really didn't think much of it at all but then it was a rank rotten day.
Agreed, but it's still the best loop in the immediate area-the final descent is great-unless they've sanitised that too. The Arrochar loop is 80% forest road with a nice section of ST to finish, but can be embellished by riding the first section of the cobbler climb. I.e take the Glen Loin crescent climb up from Succoth and then either take the Cobbler path up as far as you can be arsed or take the zig zag ST descent back to Arrochar car park. There's a free car park/toilets at Ardgarten, couple of kms up the rest n be thankful road-from there you take the track across the road and follow ST up the Glen Loin-gives you a another good descent to finish. There's also the Ardgarten peninsula loop but it's 90% forest road, although the view is ace and the Lochan at the top is a cracking wee spot.
