anyone use ride with gps  ??

cant find a gps with a big enough screen, so thought about buying Ride with gps.

just wondering if it is any good ?  and can you use it like a proper gps unit ?

like say, can someone send you a gps file, and you save it and use it on your ride with gps account ?

Why don't you just install RwG on your phone and try it.? It's free!
(Sure, there are paid features but you can get a good idea if it works just by trying the free stuff. Some of the more useful features require the use of the desktop/web browser version, for instance. For sure, it's possible to create and share routes by sharing links to other people's RwG routes)

Try it free is a good suggestion, you could also try Komoot free. I occasionally use Komoot, it’s pretty good but will route you on to footpaths at times.

The main issue with free RWGPS is you can't edit the route whilst out and about if you want to. Try the freebie and pay the sub if you're going to use it in anger.

Personally, I prefer to keep nav and phone (and even pics) devices separate so there's more chance of them working/having charge when I really really need them...

I used it back in the day when I first got into biking, before I bought a proper GPS. worked fine, main problem was a lot of phone screens are pretty crap in very bright sunlight.

I think it might be a premium feature to upload a route. You can definitely do it though.

Some events create the routes in RwG then share the link to their planned route. In practical terms, this works fine. Per above, I assume loading someone's elses GPX (or similar) on the phone seems to be a premium feature as I don't seem to be able to do that (I only have the free version)

Of course, you can always cancel the paid version if it's no longer needed/useful...

Did you try a GPS? The high contrast maps you now get on Garmin and Wahoo don't offer a lot of detail but they're much easier to follow than traditional maps imo (if you're following a route).

No harm in trying RWGPS though.

@butcher    yes mate, tried a element bolt a mate has lent me.  screen is far too small.

looked at various garmin units. all are smaller than my phone screen.

You can load GPX's from someone else on the free version. It's even easier if they provide it via a RWGPS link. Uploading to an external GPS can be a bit involved initially but once you know the process, it's a POP.

I'm.using a Garmin Edge 1030+ (now superseded by the same size 1040).

The screen is 3.5 inches and nice and clear.

Yes, that's half the size of my Galaxy S23+. But I'm REALLY nervous about strapping a £1k phone to the handlebars.  The 1040 ain't cheap but is more rugged and 45% the price and has a properly designed mount.and a lanyard backup if it does detach.

I've got 1:50k OS maps on the Edge. Fine most of the time (100% if the route is pre planned).

If I need to see the 'really big picture' I take a laminated 1:50k map with me.
