Hi
I'm flying up from Bristol early Saturday morning ready for work on Sunday morning.

Saturday I am looking for a lift to Glentress for a days riding.
Will be renting a bike when I get there, so will just be me and a bag.
Don't mind helping with fuel costs and cups of tea!!

I should be ok to leave Edinburgh by 9am.
Any offers much appreciated!

Ok, so theres a direct bus to Peebles, how close is this to the start of the trails? Easy walking distance?

Any ideas how long the bus will take, and how regular they are?

Thanks

Reasonably quick and frequent - couple of miles along to GT from peebles

http://firstborders.co.uk/peebles/peebles.php Dunno if there is bike hire in peebles itself

You can get off at Glentress itself, bus takes an hour or so and they leave every 30 mins.

More pressing matters should be concerning you on that day as it's my birthday.

Bike bus leaves to early at 08.30am, my flight is not due in until 08.15am so no way I can make it to the pickup for 08.30am.

Looks like I may be busing it down!

Thanks for the information.

There's a bus stop on the main road right by the entrance to Glentress. We stopped at the Glentress Hotel last week and got the bus in to Peebles, think it was the number 62 and had come from Edinburgh. The buses were every half hour.

Give Olly a buzz at the Glentress Hotel, he'll let you know. He also runs the new cafe at the visitor centre.

It is indeed the number 62, First Buses (the purple ones) not the maroon Lothian Buses.

Is a bit tricky at the moment with the Tram works diversions, but I think you can get off the airport bus at Waverley. Then head around the corner and get the 62, it will probably say Peebles/Galashiels/Melrose on the front, at Waverley bridge, the last stop heading south.

But be warned - purple buses are smelley and they go through Penicuik.

If your lift doesn't work out there is a bike hire place in Peebles:

The guy who runs it is very nice and helpful, not sure if the bikes are as good as GT but would save walking if the bus doesn't go through (think it does, if the next stop is Innerleithen you'll be fine).
