Morning all,

Couple of questions for those who've done the event before as I'm currently planning my travel down and back there.

1. The "exhibition" where you have to collect numbers etc. from, any idea how late it's open?
2. When do you find out your start times? Mainly as I want to book my return train.
3. Is the start worth spectators going to? My wife will be coming with me and I'm wondering if it's worth her heading to QEP to see us off or just meeting at the finish.

Thanks all.

1) I think it's open til about 8, maybe a bit later. When I did it I left work in Margate at 6 to drive up, so was in the area at 7.30 ish and remember I was worried that I'd be cutting it fine.

2) Within about a month of the event from memory. When I did it there seemed to be a cock up with emails. A mate doing it got his several days before me & I think they had a statement on the website about problems. I think I got mine on their 3rd attempt at sending.

3) Don't think so. You go in the pens about 1 hr before the start then shuffle round to the actual start. It's likely that she'll miss you amongst all the different waves going off.

Start times came out late last year. Got my email on 09 July 2018.

If you're talking about Saturday reg. -

4. Registration closes at 17:00 on Saturday 28 July. No rider numbers will be issued after 17:00 and you will not be able to take part if you have not registered by this time.

I went after work on Friday and don't remember rushing (riding from the city) so 8pm sounds about right.

Edit re point 1) I went up Friday after work, forgot it was open on the Sat too. Think you can get someone to pick it up for you if they have your ID should you know anyone closer to the pick up place.

Can't remember about the registration aspect. I always went relatively early on the Saturday, avoid the queues.

Start times normally come out in an email about a month before the ride along with instructions about start zone colour, pen number, directions etc.

It's not worth going up there with anyone. They won't be allowed into the Olympic Park area or the start pens and you need to be there at least an hour before your listed start time. There's a lot of queing, shuffling forward, waiting etc. Hint: go to a charity shop and buy a big woolly jumper. Once you've dropped your bag at the lorries, pop your jumper on to stay warm then just ditch it at the start line. It can get very cold standing around and the wind whips around the velodrome and across the open spaces.

To meet up afterwards I'd suggest somewhere a little way away from the finish area, it gets very congested.

personally I'll blow off the queueing around QEP and just join the route as close to the start as you can at a time that's more respectable. spend an extra hour in bed.

Tell the Mrs to stay in bed and meet you at the finish line.

Bear in mind you need to ride back from the Mall to where ever

Got my email. Reg. is 1st-3rd Aug. Closes at 20:00 Thu/Fri and 17:00 on Saturday.

I'm off at 06:16. Disappointed I haven't done much training (due to work) but hope to have a nice morning out .. hope the weather is better this year! 🙂
