Went for a one-a-day today, and noticed the front tyre had deflated overnight, so pumped it up. Halfway through, propped the bike against the wall and it almost immediately started pissing air out of a sidewall hole. Did the Stans shake to seal it up, got back home with no further problems, leant the bike against the garage door and it started hissing again straightaway.

So what's going on here then?

Your bike doesn't like being propped up against stuff.

Maybe the centrifugal and rotational forces are keeping the whole plugged with fresh sealant but when it's stationary the air pressure breaks the seal and most of the sealant has dropped to the bottom?

This. Stick it upside down on it’s bars and saddle and the tyre will probably explode

Rotate the wheel so the puncture is at the top, then the air can't flow out.

Hole too big to seal properly or fluid not sticking effectively. I’ve had it a couple of times, tyre rides fine but the next day it’s flat and the hole is wet so you know the jizz ain’t done it’s thing.

Hole down and it will hold air, leak a bit of jizz.

I just patch the inside of the tyre with a patch and that sorts it.

In a similar situation, I got a hole in a tyre that was too big to seal. Stuck in a tube to get home then put a different tyre on.

Finally got around to fixing the hole on Tuesday. Mounted it to find the hole and is hasn’t lost any air. I’ve not added any sealant so it can’t be that.

I’m beginning to wonder if I imagined it.

Don't over think it. When it's leaking stab it with a tubeless repair and forget about it.

I would check there is enough sealant in there when convenient.

Wasn't really, just seemed curious timing. Tread is pretty worn out anyway so I've just lobbed a new Butcher on it. Which will no doubt be flat as a pancake when I pop out to check it in a minute 🙂

Yes, but then I'll also have to deal with the brake bleed I've been trying to put off.

I have the same using a tube. Fixed the puncture and it went quickly down again leaning on the fence.Nothing stuck in the tyre.must be something sharp on the rim.
