So Giant quote £6K for this wagon, which I'm sure is a very nice bike but that is just silly money.

I've seen it touted about the interweb for £4200 which is much better but still daft.

So having spent 5 mins on CRC I've worked out that buying the various bits at retail would come in at £5300ish, and that's using the most expensive Ritchey post, bars and stem.

With a bit of proper digging I'm sure you could easily drop another £1K off a more or less identical build list, which does beg the question, who the $*%< would pay the full asking price? ❓ 🙄

Someone who likes the idea of the bike being fully assembled and sold to them via a reputable Giant dealer and want's a friendly face to return the bike too for servicing, warranty issues and/or anything else, someone who like's to see a local shop who perhaps stock giant rewarded for hard loyal service he/she might have received in the past, someone who has not got a few hours to sit and look at every component and purchase all on line, then wait for delivery then build it up or take it to a local shop to be built up..

So maybe quite a few would pay the full asking price then...

Me personally, expensive bike purchase, then i'd prob go to a shop too, test ride, change kit on it, have a place for warranty issues etc.

With or without frame?

If you've got 5 grand to spend on a bike, what's a thousand pound here or there?

Agreed, it's a sporting price

mind, frame is about 1300 at wiggle (list 1500)

I wonder if this is 2011's similar frame (& decent parts) but fuglier

Do CRC sell Anthem frames?

It's a common thing with bikes over a couple of grand IME, for some reason manufacturers start adding on a ridiculous amount. The Spesh Roubaix s-works is a good example, it's RRP is about a grand more than the sum of it's parts (at RRP prices), given Spesh will be getting massive volume discounts I just can't understand why they feel the need to rip people off, possibly they just want to keep them at a premium and know they'll sell enough anyway. At least they do a frame only option though which many don't.

Is it anything to do with the fact that prices drop at the end of the year or when new models are introduced?

I specced that up with £1500 rrp for the frame which I know you can get for around a grand.

GG, another £1K on a £5k purchase is err another 20%. I guess you don't need to worry about money so can I interest you in some unobtaniumsnakeoil? 😉 😀

Oh and who'd honestly be happy thrashing around on a £200 saddle?
