Hi all, I’m looking for a HT alternative to my Giant Trance 2 29er, mainly for steep, rooty, techy, forest trails all with long climbs out.
I want it to be capable of the above and be something different to my FS - otherwise what’s the point eh ?
I don’t hear much of the Ribble on here but it looks like what I’m after.
Any opinions, pos or neg?
I'm mulling over a new frame, and the 725 is a possible.
Right now, though, I'm erring toward a Pace 627. Basically a longer lower slacker version of what I already have, a Pace 127. Mainly as all the bits I have will be just a straight swap across.
Having looked over it in the cribbs causeway store a few times now it’s definitely on my list when I get a replacement hardtail, seen a few including the stif one, kona, etc and the rubble really is nice and looks well thought out
Don’t be put off by the geometry, these ride beautifully - up and down: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBTILMGX/titus-loco-moto-sram-gx-titanium-mountain-bike
The Ribble does look nice.
I have one and I love it 🙂
LLS makes it super stable on steep tech and it seems to dig in well on climbs too. Great on local blasts or all dayers.
Initially built it with a 160 fork (designed around 150) and now have a 170 on it handed down from my FS as I couldn't be arsed messing with spacers, found it rides great with both.
Having said all of the above it may be for sale soon as I'm about to fall for the Downcountry marketing hype 🙂
Another 725 owner here (Pike and GX build kit).
Had mine for nearly a year and I love it. Bought it mainly as a winter bike as my Foxy eats bearings for breakfast, but I’ve found myself riding it more than I thought.
It’s a very capable bike and loves it when you point it down, it’s very playful. They climb fairly well too.
Just don’t get one with the stock Level wheelset, as they’re made of cheese and are a pain to set up tubeless. I destroyed the rear after two weeks (replaced with Hunt Trailwide).
I also managed to score a deep gouge in the dropper, which then let in water and crud, then finally gave up the ghost.
Thanks for the input everyone.
As beguiling a ride as it seems from owner reviews, the prospect of outlaying for better wheels makes me very dubious about pulling the trigger.
I built mine from a frame only but I believe the droppers are not the best
