Following on from a previous thread I'm tempted to order a Ribble CGR AL.
Does anyone own one? What are they like? Are you happy with it?

My CGR thread

Here is a thread I posted recently.

I have the 725 now. Covered 100 miles or so, therefore early days but happy to help if there are any questions that cross over.

As on the other thread...I've got one and am happy with it. It's been largely trouble free.

However....I've become fed up with the cable discs. They were fine at the start but became less effective. This could be that my riding style changed to mainly road use. I changed cables and outers but never regained full confidence in them. They worked, but I never fully trusted them. So, bike went to LBS this morning to have hydro discs fitted.

Not sure it you can specify hydro brakes at order time but my advice would be to do so.

Mine turns up tomorrow hopefuly . Planet X are turning out some pretty good deals at the moment but I was buying through c2w and the gcr seemed a good fit for what I was after .

Had a 105 spec one (@sarawak, comes with hydro brakes) for a few weeks. Liking it so far, even more so that I got a nice discount through my cousin working for Ribble.

I was seriously considering trading it in for a different bike, but it is now mainly my winter bike. I actually quite like riding it. It fits me well and has been reliable.
I suddenly had a brainwave that all that was niggling me was the brakes so I had a word with LBS. Not only will they fit the new parts for free, but they have offered to buy the old bits off me. (Think that might be a bit of private enterprise by the mechanic!)
Will work out a lot cheaper than changing and I've got a bike that I know and like.

I have an orange CGR AL (following a rather infamous wait time due to their preorder backlog).I got the SRAM Apex 1x, 700/40c version

As my first gravel bike I was looking forward to a 'point and shoot' bike that could do anything. While for the most part I'm happy with it, I've got some niggles. The build quality (not frame) has been OK, except the Hydro R brakes where I think Ribble cut costs by using very cheap rotors. The disc 'chirp' I get on both F and R is driving me nuts. Also, the GXP bottom bracket arrived loose, and it's lateral play so not something I can fix by tightening. The 1x definitely tops out early for commuting, but that was to be expected. Overall the CGR AL is not a 'light' bike by any means, and the carbon forks are very flexy when out of saddle, side-to-side hammering.

Overall it's a good bike, but not... great. I've definitely had a bit of buyer's remorse when looking at PX deals (especially the Space Chicken). Perhaps due to the wait time I got myself overhyped. Since arrival I've gone tubeless, and I think my next upgrade will be better rotors and smaller/skinnier tyres rather than the large Schwalbe jobs.

Hope that helps!

I looked at them, but today took delivery off a Pinnacle Arkrose D3. Gave me all I wanted including sub compact gearing off the shelf

I've been looking at these as a possible upgrade from my croix de fer. I feel like something a bit lighter and with better gearing (I've got 2x9 sora at the moment) might just add a bit more fun but still retain the option of 32c tyres and fulfill trailer pulling, occasional bridleway duties. I just don't know if it's really worth it or if the right upgrades to the CdF will achieve the same things.

When I were a young'un, Ribble's were really desirable (don't know if that was justified then or now,) but because they're from just up the road I think that added to the kudos.
