You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm going to Rhodes in 3 weeks for 10 nights with the family but looking at the idea of going mtb'ng for a day. I've been in touch with rodos cycling but the trails they say are for experienced riders look a bit naff, gravel fire roads mainly with around 40-50% road. Has anyone been biking in Rhodes?
Looking at the photos and videos he sent me in thinking of giving it a miss.
I've never been to Rhodes but every other Greek island that I've been to (and the western Mani, where I am at present) suffer from the same thing -namely a lack of any real trail infrastructure. There are dirt roads in abundence, many of them steep, loose and rocky and if you like climbing on that sort of stuff (which I do) then that's fine.
What there isn't in most cases is a nice singletrack descent - it's either back down the same, or a different, dirt road or try and find goat tracks and old mule tracks, which is where the best riding, some of it outside my comfort zone.
If you spend a fair amount of time in one location, which I do, then you can search out and clear/improve new stuff but if you only have a few weeks then that's not possible. Most of my riding is on my own and I've never found anyone around here who likes to ride the stuff that I do. They're more like roadies on a mountain bike, if you know what I mean?
So, you have the added issue of being up in big mountains on your own, often out of phone coverage and no-one with you as back-up, the result of this being for me that I'll sometimes wimp out of stuff that I know I could probably ride....
I have some nice cheeky stuff near my village though, so it's not all bad.
