Hello and HNY folks.

Currently after a new MTB waterproof, since my MT500 has started delaminating after only 2 years and I can't stand trying to zip it up with cold hands and it catching all the time.

I don't really wanna spend loads on a dedicated MTB jacket, as all the fancy 3L ones are very pricey. I don't wear it much and it just gets dirty and scuffed anyway. So I'm looking on Vinted etc for just regular 3 layer / goretex jackets as they can be gotten pretty cheap. The cheaper 2.5L MTB jackets I always find are hot and uncomfy against bare skin.

I'm not that arsed about MTB specific features other than a big hood. Pit zips would be nice. Mostly gets used hike-a-biking up mountains or at lunch stops etc anyway, the rest of the time it's in the bag.

Anyone had a Revolution Race jacket before? specifically the "Pro Shell" one? I know its not actual Gore Proshell, but seems like a decent enough 3 layer jacket and comes in some nice colours. There's a few in seemingly good nick for £ double digits on various sites at the moment.

From what I can tell from social media, RR is either the domain of brightly-coloured-trousered Instagram Hikers (tm), or weekend warrior pretend SAS bushcraft types - but they're everywhere these days. Any real world reviews here? I'd imagine they size up pretty big rather than slim / Alpine cut.

I got one for my son last year. Can't remember the specific model but yes it's a roomier fit. Feels robust and well made, not lightweight. He likes it. I'm more impressed with that than the lightweight ME jacket I got for myself. You could also try the Fjern jackets, there's always some on eBay for a reasonable price. On Vinted it looks like people are buying them from Sportpursuit and using the RRP to try and make a few quid.

I bought a trouser and jacket set from them a few years ago.

Quality wise, they're excellent and have really lasted well despite a lot of use

Size wise, they are weird. I ordered a large in both the trousers and the jacket.

For the jacket, I could probably have gone for a small and the trousers would've been better with an XL. Given I'm a large in every other brand of stuff, it did feel odd

We've both got Silence jackets.  K's is a year older than mine and has done 3 weeks skiing now as well as casual/walking wear.  The Silence was only about £140 at full price and I think we both paid less than that.  some of the more expensive jackets have branded YKK zips whereas this one doesn't but I can't really see how you go from their c150 - 250+ jackets

Can't fault it - fabric is nice, it's waterproof and seems to breath well enough.  it's got pitzips which I think are more important that fabric breathability and the 'helmet compatible hood' is actually wearable over a ski helmet and also cinches up well enough to wear without.

Previous threads on here have suggested that since all the Gore patents are long gone theres little difference between branded and unbranded membranes.

What I cant' work out with RR is their different fabrics/membranes - they seem to describe everything as 'hyper shell pro' but state different water column/breathability figures for different jackets 20/10 20/20 30/25 so there are clearly differences (though again, how much difference that makes in real world is debatable)

Fit on the science is pretty slim - particularly around the hips.  Sleeves are good and long (which is why I bought it because my arms are long) which would be good for riding.

It's a pretty heavy weight fabric - perfect for walking/skiing but would be lot bulkier than I'd want to stuff into a backpack when I was riding.  I'm sure they use different fabrics for different jackets - they gives weights for each coat but a 'fabric weight'

mm.  I'm normally a medium in everything.  I'm wearing their Norwand trousers (good for riding in when it's not raining) in a large with a belt (gives slightly more leg length).  The coat is a medium and I'd not want any bigger (or smaller) so I'd say regularly sized

Got a couple of pairs of strides and a jacket.

All pretty good quality and the fit for me was as recommended by them.

The first pair of troos are five years old and still going strong.

I'm neither on insta or a pretend military type.

I've got their hiking trousers which I work in and they've lasted v v well.

Bought a pair of waterproof trousers, v comfortable, nice fit but completely un-waterproof so rubbish. Returns process seemed a complete faff and expensive, and they were v disinterested ... was a couple of years back so may have improved.

Thanks for your help all.

For anyone interested or in a similar boat - I managed to pick up a "Fohn Supercell" jacket from Vinted, for £40, in near perfect condition. Absolute steal.

AFAIK Fohn was/is Wiggle CRC's "outdoor clothing" line, an answer to their DHB cycling stuff line.

It's very nice! 3L, Aquaguard zips, pit vents, big helmet and lovely fit / sizing. Feels breathable and seems very waterproof as per a snowy ride and a rainy commute to test this morning.
