Hoping somebody gets the intended pun in the GnarWhale mount naming 😛
Thought I'd share this with you guys, makes a nice change to the countless shaky headcam videos you see. Wanted to try a reverse GoPro mount but wasn't that impressed with what was on the market, so I decided to make my own. Pretty stoked with how it turned out!
Unfortunately I haven't uploaded the video to Vimeo or YouTube yet so I can't embed it, but here's a link to it on PinkBike - www.pinkbike.com/video/303445/
Shameful plug, but if you want to see any future videos I post with it give my Facebook page a like as that's where I'll post them 🙂

Hopefully this inspires other people to try something new with their GoPros!
Looks like it makes awesome footage, but I'd be just a little worried about catching it on a low branch.
Did you put in some weak sacrificial part in there so that if you do catch it you don't snap your head backwards?
😀
I'm kind of relying on the helmet mount coming off in a crash, other than that, no. I'm not too sure how I'd add a failsafe break point? I am thinking of adding a counterbalance to it somehow to make a little easier to ride with.
Somebody got it! haha, NARWHALS!
Is the back part of the mount free to rotate? In which case the visor attachment to the helmet is presumably the weak point.
Looks great Danny. Do you have any closer pics of the helmet mount and camera mount ends of the bar?
It's attached to the helmet with the standard GoPro adhesive mount, so there's no rotation. It isn't attached to the helmet peak either, that's simply some rubber tape around the bars to stop it rubbing/scratching and moving around horizontally when I'm riding. I'm thinking the adhesive mount would just break off the helmet, especially with the leverage it'd have with the GoPro being that far away.
I don't, Duane, sorry. It's attached via the standard mount then at the GoPro end it's one of the thumbscrews and a nut and washer.

They do - there's a few out there. I don't think any of them are long enough though.
As this is a shameless video plug thread..
best thing I learnt was to put mine down...
Going to get a cheap tripod and fettle a bracket/mounting plate for it also need to do a hand held stabaliser (rotating counter balanced thing) for static shooting. Apart from that I'm looking at post processing image stabalisation....
Good work that. Hope no Japanese people gnarpoon you.
Would agree with the comments about looking at the camera..
Tinted or mirrored lens required I think.
Plus a few more jumps or other action would be good. Cracking idea though.
What was the music btw?
I kind of think being able to see my eyes makes a bit more 'intense'? haha. Yeah, I need to test it somewhere else, pretty much just bimbling down the easiest stuff I could find as I was shitting myself riding with a harpoon on my head 🙄
The music is Glitch Mob & Daft Punk - Derezzed
You've seen this one? Seems to use a longer pole than yours....

That's where I got the inspiration, actually!
I know someone who coupled it with an old road hub to give a spinning effect, it sat steady until you flicked it round then it got all freaky... May have to give this one a go....
I've seen the spinny ones, I can imagine it was awfully off-putting though?
