Possibly silly question but how can you tell the amount of travel a post has?

I need to replace mine and I’ve taken the post out but it just has diameter and post length on it - 30.9 and 420mm

I’d like my new one to have a bit more travel

Is it simply measuring how much post is showing when fully extended or is it more subtle than that??

There's been a few models of reverb so that length could be one of many.

Drop it, note where it stops, extend it then measure from the collar to the point at where it stopped. It'll be 100, 125, 150 0r 175 for a reverb.

Measure it? Or is that too logical?

Compress it fully and note how much tube is showing the raise it fully. Measure how far it moves.
