My bike was lent out a lot over the big Bike Bash weekend and has come back with the seatpost at the lowest position.

1) Pressing the button does nothing.
2) Adjusting the return speed adjuster on the button does nothing.
3) Lift the saddle and it springs back down much in the way it used to spring up when you pressed the button.
4) I have checked the pressure at the bottom of the seat post and it is 250psi

My plan to bleed it removed a few bubbles but not much.

I now plan to let ll of the air pressure out and re-inflate.

Any other ideas if that doesn't work?

Are there instructions for how to repressurise it? Have you followed them?

On my Hilo, if you simply attach a pump to the valve and pump, you get nowhere and potentially break it. There's a procedure to get the air pocket to where the valve is...

++potential egg sucking content+++

When you did the bleed did you flush the system through? I had a similar issue a while back and after it was flushed it worked fine.

Fixed it.

Let all of the pressure out of the system and pulled the saddle fully up. Bled it again pushing the fluid both directions a few times until the last couple of bubbles came out. Flicking the hose* a couple of times along its length helped.

Remove the syringes and replace the fixings and then re-inflate the post.

Perfectly plush, buttery smooth and lush.

*not a euphemism

FWIW: Pulling the post up won't have made any difference - when it springs back down like that it's because the valve isn't opening to let oil into the main chamber. All that pulling the seat up does is create a vacuum above the main piston and risk air leaking past the piston seal into the oil (normally the weight of the saddle / rider is trying to push the oil the other way).

(The air in the remote line will be enough to stop the button operating the valve.)

Glad you got it sorted, though.

Okay - thanks for the heads up. I guess removing the air and lifting the post while bleeding it just freed up some extra air bubbles

Unlikely, as the up and down bit of post and the remote hydraulics are completely separate systems with a mechanical link (the poppet valve) - there are at least two 'O' rings between them, and it's only the remote circuit that you can bleed.

But at least it's sorted! 🙂
