Hello I took the plunge and serviced my reverb, replaced keys and some washers etc. Whilst doing this I accidentally tipped the post upside down, and some oil came out. I thought bugger, but assumed it was from the trigger mechanism so assumed I could bleed this when all together. So have done this but the post is stuck down after pressurising and a bleed. I have seen there are ways to get it to release, but wondered was the oil that came out the issue. Was the oil in fact nothing to do with the trigger and integral to the seatpost in another way? Seatpost is older non-stealth. thanks...
The oil level inside the post is crucial and has to be set correctly. I'f you've lost some of the oil this will obvs now be incorrect.
When you say a "bleed", are you referring to bleeding the actuating mechanism or the post itself?
I've had a few of these apart and they're not difficult to work on but having the correct tools helps. I'd take it apart again and reset the oil level & IFP height.
If it makes you feel any better I decided to have a go at servicing an old saggy reverb yesterday. Thought I had all the tools and parts I needed right up until it came to setting the oil height. The tool I have is intended for motorcycle forks and.....is too fat to fit in the reverb. It’s still sat in the vice waiting for me to find some thinner pipe
If either of you are near Swansea or Carmarthen I have the tools here to borrow if you want.
Thanks Ambrose but I’m miles away in Sussex. It shouldn’t be too hard for me to bodge something anyway😀
You just need a way to measure the correct depth, and something to poke the IFP down to the right depth with. Think I used a spoke for both tbh.
Pretty sure the IFP height is always the same as the Reverb travel, or at least it was on the external cable models
Wow I am wishing I hadn't accidentally tipped it over. Oil height tool and poking down the IFP? sounds like I might be taking it to my LBC to get them to change the oil. Out of interest is it a different oil to the one used to bleed the trigger?
