Apart from £75 for a 1X brand new remote for a Reverb Stealth A2, is there a cheap fix around for a remote lever which is leaky?
Where is it leaking from?
Difficult to tell, but not from the hose / inlet. Somewhere in / around the piston / plunger.
Probably worth unscrewing the hose, cutting the last cm off, and screwing it back on. At the push lever end (which I think is where you are talking about) it just screws over a threaded barb inside the lever. I had one start to leak at the post end after I let the post drop too far so the hose got bent too much at the pivot bolt cross tube (on a Trek Slash). Maybe you snagged it a bit too far somewhere. But if the case of that was your hose is too short, then a new hose would be needed.
You can get a service kit for the remote, comes with button, seals etc but if the bore of the cylinder is damaged it won't help and isn't particularly cheap so worth pulling the piston out first (retained by a U shaped clip inside the bar clamp) and clean it out and inspect first.
Or
Ask at a LBS, they should be able to sort out an standard button lever a lot cheaper than the 1x
I had the same issue, ditched it in favour of a Woolftooth ReMote Sustain. Works great and no more hydraulic to bleed.
I'm not imagining that the piston is damaged, not through an OTB etc anyway, so I'm suspecting things like o-rings and general sealing. The service kit sounds worth a punt with the accompanying "having a looksie" first.
I did look at the ReMote Sustain. Interested, because it takes out the hydraulics in the actuation. But not cheaper than a replacement lever!
Thanks all! Will try LBS see what they can do for a new old-style button lever.
No, not cheaper, but so much better. Makes the Reverb work like it always should have. Worth every penny IMHO
There's only 4 O rings if you want to go the cheap route this may help
Had same issue got fed up and changed to a bike yoke lever and cable setup post been working like a dream no slowing down in the cold etc.
The hydraulic lever on a reverb is the biggest weakness on the post
