[Closed] Reverb dropping by a cm when sitting

2020 internal routed reverb just started dropping by a cam or so when sitting. Checked the pressure and it seems good.

Google suggests either it is a warranty issue or there is air in the wrong place and a strip and rebuild is needed?

Any advice?

Thanks

Google is right. How old is the post?

It is a 2020 post, came on a santa Cruz ex demo bike.

Just started all of a sudden, does not seem to be getting worse.

Cheers

Yep, air has got past the IFP, like it always bloody does. It'll be an easy warranty claim at least.

It only really needs reset- basically a service with no new parts. It's not massively difficult, I've done a couple but in warranty I'd always go with that

If no warranty it's an easy fix, especially on the newer ones where you can bleed it from the top

It's not difficult to do at home with a couple of particular tools and a bleed kit. I got pretty slick at doing them when we had one on the wife's bike.

All of my Reverb posts have developed this sag; most annoying. After rebuilding it's never happened again using the latest grey IFP.

FWIW they've said at least twice that they've made a new IFP that solves it, neither of the two "upgrades" I fitted were any better than the old ones.

They all do it. It will do it again after it's fixed. The real answer is to flog it and buy a One Up/PNW/Brand X post with the money once it's been warrantied.

Plenty folks including me have had this issue. I have owned several of these posts & all of them have been affected.

The last post that did this was a 150mm drop stealth bought new by me & still inside the warranty period. The quickest solution was to strip & rebuild it myself as I'd done with the others.

It was obvious taking it apart that the lower seal head had been put in by the apprentice using a stilson. I've still got the picture. No other obvious signs of damage but it made me question the QA/QC during assembly.

I've been using the grey IFP as replacement & have yet to have a repeat failure. My own theory is that play in the bottom bush is partly responsible for allowing the air shaft to move out of centre perhaps when the post is at full extension & heavily loaded.

I make an upgraded bush for the lower seal head using material from Bearingboys. This eliminates all the play provided the top cap bush is still 100%. (These can also be upgraded) In all of the posts I've stripped and rebuilt the bottom bush has been worn & the grease dirty. I'm assuming that this is due to water & mud etc entering through the felt seal/filter when the bike is inverted.

I'd go with a new IFP and see how you get on. Pain in the rear when these things happen but as I've said, no repeat failures for me so far.

Mine stuck down after a year of ownership. Bleed and repressure and it's been fine for two years since.
