Just a rant really so apologies!
Old version is fine - why on earth did Rockshox decide on a push fit bleed tool for the newer 1X remote?? Flipping thing leaks everywhere and is an awful design.
Rant over…
Where is it leaking from? It uses the Bleeding Edge connector doesn't it.. so should be no leakage at all if you lock it off before removing.
Make sure the bleeding edge tool is properly connected too. I found it needed to be pushed in at a very slight angle before clicking it into place (was a bit of a pain to connect it before I found this out).
Make sure the bleeding edge tool is properly connected too.
Yup, this too - there is a very definite 'click' when it is connected properly.
Yep I do all of that and it pisses Reverb fluid everywhere…
I have to say I may be being thick but I can’t work out how it is supposed to work? If you put the tool in and loosen the grub screw, then end of the screw is right against the open end of the syringe, so how is the fluid supposed to pass freely into the syringe? The end of the screw is blocking off the opening.
Are you opening the bleed screw too far? The SRAM docs state:
To open the system, turn the bleed port screw counter-clockwise one quarter turn. Then turn the bleed port screw clockwise until light resistance is felt, then stop
So it's basically barely open.
If you put the tool in and loosen the grub screw, then end of the screw is right against the open end of the syringe, so how is the fluid supposed to pass freely into the syringe?
Not sure without looking at it, but I guess maybe the grub screw has a hole in it which lines up with the syringe hole but is flat against something in the lever assembly when done up, effectively closing it.
Well my grub screw doesn’t have a hole in it!
If anyone feels like checking their one for me would be much appreciated. Weirdly there doesn’t seem to be any way of getting a replacement one anywhere, I can’t even find a picture of it to check what it should look like.
IIRC the end of the Bleeding Edge tool is hex shaped so you are using that to open the grub screw once it is in place. The allen key part is just to ensure the grub screw is 'free' enough to turn using the BE tool (you may not even use the allen key once you've done it once and the grub screw is no longer at factory tolerance).
So in short....
1. Use allen key to open port 1/4 turn and then close it again (but not mega tight) - the port is now closed.
2. Insert BE tool, use that and turn 1/4 turn to open the port to bleed and so on.
3. Once bleed is complete ensure port is closed using BE which is still in place. You should then be able to detach the tool mess free.
I suspect you're opening the port and then sticking the tool in, the port is then open too much and leaking fluid as you bleed.
Edit - yes it does! I think it must have been blocked. There is a hole in the side to allow fluid to pass into the syringe but it wasn’t working. Hopefully will work again now!
No I was doing everything as instructed (I think) but the fluid wasn’t going into the syringe. Going to try again now I’ve fiddled with the grub screw.
