[Closed] Revelation RCT3 Dual Position Air....Mistake???

Hi All,

I have just ordered a pair of these from on one on impulse as they are a seemingly crazy £299 in my steerer option. They are to replace my Coil Pikes that I have had for 6 years now. I can't praise these forks enough. I have re read my order and realised that these are not Dual air and that dual position air is something else entirely. Then I read a dodgy review of this system.

Have I made a mistake here??? I could probably cancel my order tonight.

Cheers,

John

I've had two sets of dual position air revs 120-150mm no problems with either set . Had some dual air ones a few years ago and couldn't get on with them.

Thanks guys, these are excellent responses, I was just starting to worry a little. It seems in the past the dual air variations have been considered better and I am assuming that this is essentially a solo air with a travel adjust. Although looking at the site it appears that there is no longer a dual air version and that this is now the top of the range Rev. The new upcoming Pikes (which I would love but know they will be uber expensive) have the same system. No dual air available.

I had read that they can be a bit linear and blow through travel quick but from the sounds of it they are fine?

A final question, Anyone ridden these and Pikes, if so any opinions?

Lot's of writing I know, sorry!

Cheers,

John

Me.
At first the revs where a lot nicer but i then blew £300 and had the pikes(dual air u-turn)serviced and modded to RCT3 with dual flow rebound.
Now the pikes are much better than the revs.
But that doesn't really help now does it. 😉
I still have both as there both now superb forks..

Haha not so much helpful but interesting! I was thinking of modding the pikes via push tuning with the dual flow rebound but thought I may be money better put towards new forks. So how are the pikes now better? I guess you essentially have last years RLT dual air revs in a Pike chassis?

No.completely different.
I have 2013 RCT3 140 Rev compression damper with 2013 dual flow rebound damper and there ace.
The u-turn air side of the fork does not need upgrading. It's the damper side that makes the difference.

Cool, sounds like a nice set up. But you think the Revs I have ordered will be a step up from my coil pokes?

Yep.They sure will.Think of the pike i now have as a beefed up stiffer RCT3 Rev.There's a small weight penalty but they track a lot better than the Rev.

I see. Thanks for all the info guys, this is massively helpful. I think that's panic over! One final question, is there a big difference in stiffness between the 2 designs?

I've had both (old 454 coil Pikes and 2012 RCT3 Revs)

Pikes are really heavy - Revs are a lot lighter, and less stiff as a result.
The damping in Revs is waaaaay better - on fast/rocky descents they cope with repeated hits far better than the Pike ever did. This means that at full chat on something rocky, (for me) they track better than Pikes. This might depends on how heavy you are (I'm 12st).

I would imagine that Pikes with an upgraded damper would be pretty sweet forks. They're still significantly heavier than Revs though.

The Rev is a great fork and you have the top of range damping internals so the forks should be great. I have a 2010 Rev u-turn (with newer internals) and love it.

I once tried a Sektor dual position and found it was a bit too linear and divy for me, I like a bit of ramp up in the mid to end stroke.

No idea if this was due to the sektor not set up correctly for my needs or a feature of the dual position system. Any one else experience this?

But as you're coming from a coil fork anyway you are probably used to the more linear feel.

I thought the RCT3 Dual Position Revelations were fabulous forks. Couldn't fault them and £299 is a bargain.

Once set up for my weight etc it was just a question of the 3 compression adjustments and whether you wanted 120 or 150mm travel - simples!

Oh and I think all 2013 RockShox are now solo air, but will doubtless be proved wrong now I've opened my mouth..
